Introduction

Purvanchal, the north eastern region of Uttar Pradesh and the


divine land of Lord Buddha, Kabir and Gorakhnath, witnessed an
important event on 12 th September 2005. Exercising the powers
conferred by sub-section (1) of section 23A of RRB Act 1976, the
Government of India, by its notification in the Official Gazette, for
the first time provided for the amalgamation of two well
established and good profit making RRB's i.e., Gorakhpur
Kshetriya Gramin Bank and Basti Gramin Bank, into one
Purvanchal Gramin Bank.

Encompassing through the foothills of Himalayas in the north,


river Ghaghra in South-West, the state of Bihar in the east, the
region has a moderate climate and falls in the domain of south
eastern monsoon. Agriculture is the backbone of the economy, so
the majority of farmers are engaged in growing traditional crops. A
good number of sugar mills are established in the area, hence
sugarcane crop is also grown by the farmers in abundance.

Purvanchal Gramin Bank having its head office at Gorakhpur


operates through the network of its 340 branches, in seven
districts ( Gorakhpur, Mahrajganj, Deoria, Kushinagar, Basti,
Siddharthnagar and Sant Kabir Nagar) of Purvanchal. 1724
dedicated employees (as on 30.06.2010) are working hard for the
noble cause of rural upliftment to enable rural masses to become
self dependent and capable of contributing towards national
growth in consonance with National and State level priorities.

Highlights of Performance during the year 2009-10

1. Net profit increased by 56% from Rs. 32.57 Crores to Rs.


50.83 Crores.

2. 109% achivement of deposit targets by registering a growth of


18.12 % CASA % improved by 121 basis point to 74.25%.

3. Loan Book increated by 27%. However, we were short of


budgetary targets by Rs. 28 Crores as NABARD made a payment
of Rs. 80 Crores under ADWDRS scheme in advance.

4. Market share in advance improved by 380 basis pointto


23.56% as on 31st December 2009.

5. A sum of Rs. 1198 Crores disbursed under different loan


schemes which is 103% of our potential linked plan.

6. Gross NPAs reduced from 6.98% to 5.20% and net NPAs from
4.17% to 3.16%.

7. C.D. ratio improved from 38.71% to 41.72% as compared to


CD ratio of 26% of all Banks in our area of operation.

8. Other income increased by 140%.

9. In a short span of four months, Rs. 2.13 Crores collected as


premium for SBI Life covering 7926 lives.

10. 1,30,000 GPOs amount to Rs. 707 Crores issued during the
year earning a commission of Rs. 1.69 Crores.
11. All branches migrated on CBS platform in a record time of
45 days.

12. 30 new branches opened during the year taking the total no.
of branches to 340.

13. Recruitment of 40 officers and 144 office assistants and


promotion in all cadres also completed during the year.

14. First RRB in the country to open a service branch.

15. No. 1 amongts all RRBs in the country for loans covered
under CGTMSE Scheme.

16. FINO FINTECH Ltd. appointed as Business Correspondent


and pilot for making payment to NRESS and different Govt.
Pension Scheme beneficiaries started in Gorakhpur District.

17. Facility of Remitting funds from any branch of SBI to PGB


account made available by opening a power Jyoti A/c with SBI.

18. As an enviromental friendly gesture, one branch is running


exclusively on Solar Power. More than 600 solar lights have also
been financed during the year.
 

The Bank is providing services to its customers through its vast


network of 340 branches spread over in seven Districts of
Gorakhpur & Basti Commissionary areas of Purvanchal Region of
U.P. Out of 340 Branches 299 are rural, 27 Semi Urban while 14
are Urban Branches.
