Controlling of Heat During (June, July & August):


Working in hot weather continues for long period of a time may cause heat stress or stroke which
can result fatal. When human body in unable to maintain a normal body temperature, heat related
illnesses may occur and could reach to life threatening condition. Proper control should be
implemented to guarantee workers health and safe work place. Site in-charge have responsibility
to protect the health of their workers.

Summer break hours:


From 12:30 hours to 15:30 hours during June, July and August

Heat Temperatures, Rest Period and Water Required:
Summer break hours should be followed for the month of June, July and August. Also site in-
charge responsible to ensure appropriate rest period and drinking water will be provided to the
workers as per the table below. Sufficient shelter should be available to shield workers from
direct sun.

Each worker should drink at least 4 liters of water during an 8 hour shift and 6 liters of drinking
water during 10 hours shift. Workers should encouraged to drink small amounts frequently to
replace the lost through sweeting. Worker should not drink more than 1.5 liters per hour, which
is the maximum rate of water absorption by the body.

Site In-charge Responsibilities:


 Ensuring a risk assessment is performed to determine where heat stress hazards exist and
who is at risk from developing a heat related illness.
 Ensuring that the required awareness is delivered to all workers against heat stress.
 Ensuring first aiders available in each separated team.
 Ensuring control measures are implemented to eliminate the risk of heat exposure as far
as reasonably practicable.
 Ensuring an effective heat stress program is implemented;
 Ensuring worksites adhere to the Labor requirements for a midday break during the
summer months for employees working outside.
 Ensuring availability of drinking water to all workers as per required.
 Ensuring that workers provided appropriate rest breaks for the heat stress as per
requirements.

Mandatory Requirements at Site:

 Increase water intake,


 Frequent rest,
 Proper supervision, especially for new employees,
 Modified work schedules as per break hours,
 Providing shaded work areas as much as possible;
