VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Multimedia University of Kenya is a chartered public University located in the City of


Nairobi within a serene environment about 25 kilometers to the south of the City along
Magadi Road.

The University is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the following
positions:

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES & TECHNOLOGY


1. Senior Lecturer, Sociology, Grade MAC 13 (1 Position) – Ref:
MMU/EA/01/04/2018
Applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer – Grade MAC 13 MUST be holders of the
following qualifications, relevant work experience and publications as indicated below:-

i. Must have PhD in Sociology from a recognized/accredited University having


studied Sociology at undergraduate and Master’s level;

ii. Served in the grade of Lecturer/Research Fellow or in a comparable position for


a minimum period of three (3) years or six (6) years research/industry
experience;

iii. A minimum of thirty two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent


twenty four (24) of which should be from refereed scholarly journals.

iv. Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion;

v. Certificate in Computer Application skills from a recognized institution; and

vi. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

FACULTY OF MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION

2. Lecturer - Film Production/Scriptwriting, Grade MAC 12 (1 Position) – Ref:


MMU/EA/02/04/2018

Applicants for the position of Lecturer – Grade MAC 12 MUST be holders of the following
qualifications, relevant work experience and publications as indicated below:-
(i) PhD degree in Film Production/ Film directing or relevant discipline from
recognized/accredited university;
OR
Masters degree in Film Production/ Film directing/ Film and TV production or
relevant discipline from recognized/accredited university; The applicant must
also be pursuing a PhD degree in Film Production/Film Directing;
(ii) A minimum of 24 publication points, sixteen (16) of which should be from
refereed journal papers or peer reviewed and screened productions;
(iii) Minimum three (3) years teaching experience at a University or three (3)
years industrial experience.
(iv) Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution;
(v) Be registered by relevant Professional Body (where applicable); and

(vi) Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

3. Lecturer – Procurement and Logistics, Grade MAC 12 (1 Position) – Ref:


MMU/EA/03/04/2018

Applicants for the position of Lecturer – Grade MAC 12 MUST be holders of the following
qualifications, relevant work experience and publications as indicated below:-

i. PhD in Supply Chain Management/ Procurement and Logistics from
recognized/accredited university;
OR
Masters Degree in Supply Chain Management from an accredited and recognised
university with at least three (3) years teaching experience at the university level
or in research / industry. The applicant must also be pursuing a PhD in Supply
Chain Management.
ii. Minimum three (3) years teaching experience at a University;
iii. A minimum of twenty four (24) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent
sixteen (16) of which should be from refereed scholarly journals.

iv. Be registered by relevant Professional Body (where applicable);

v. Certificate in Computer Application skills from a recognized institution; and

vi. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

4. Tutorial Fellow - Physics, Grade MAC 11 (1 Position) – Ref:


MMU/EA/04/04/2018

Applicants for the position of Tutorial Fellow – Grade MAC 11 MUST be holders of the
following qualifications, relevant work experience and publications as indicated below:-

(i) Master of Science in Physics from an accredited and recognized University;

(ii) Bachelor of Science in Physics or Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree


from accredited and recognized university;

(iii) Be registerable for a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) or equivalent Doctoral


degree qualification;

(iv) Should demonstrate competence in teaching and research in Applied Optics


and LASERS;

(v) Certificate in Computer Applications skills from a recognized institution;

(vi) Be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where
applicable); and

(vii) Demonstrated potential for university teaching and research.

5. Lecturer - Statistics, Grade MAC 12 (1 Position) – Ref:


MMU/EA/05/04/2018

Applicants for the position of Lecturer – Grade MAC 12 MUST be holders of the following
qualifications, relevant work experience and publications as indicated below:-

i. PhD in Statistics from recognized or accredited university; Masters of Science in


Statistics and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics or Bachelor of Education with
Major in Mathematics (Second Class Upper Division); all three from recognized
accredited institutions;

ii. Should have 3 years teaching experience in a University serving in the capacity of
an Assistant Lecturer or Tutorial Fellow;

iii. A minimum of 24 publication points, sixteen (16) of which should be from refereed
journal papers;

iv. Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution;


v. Be registered by relevant Professional Body (where applicable); and

vi. Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ABOVE POSITIONS


TUTORIAL/JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW, GRADE MAC 11

(a) Duties and Responsibilities


This is the entry grade for this cadre. Duties and responsibilities at this level will
entail:-
(i) Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
(ii) Preparing teaching/learning materials and schemes of work;
(iii) Setting and marking examination/assignments;
(iv) Carrying out research work under the guidance and supervision of senior
lecturer.
(v) Preparing students progress reports;
(vi) Maintaining discipline in lecture rooms/halls; and

(vii) Prepare publications and/or books;

LECTURER/RESEARCH FELLOW, GRADE MAC 12

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-

(i) Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;


(ii) Coordinating of course, project and practical work, and preparing schemes
of work;
(iii) Preparing teaching/learning materials;
(iv) Setting and marking examination/assignments;
(v) Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization;
(vi) Preparing students progress reports;
(vii) Maintaining discipline in lecture rooms/halls;
(viii) Developing proposals for research funding;
(ix) Writing journal articles and books;
(x) Presenting academic papers in seminars/workshops or symposia;
(xi) Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula;
(xii) Undertaking consultancy services
(xiii) Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.

SENIOR LECTURER/SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW, GRADE MAC 13

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

(i) Lecturing specific units of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;


(ii) Participating in review and preparation of training courses, programmes
and schemes of work;
(iii) Assessing student’s performance and preparing students progress reports;
(iv) Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization; and
(v) Assisting in conducting seminars/workshops or symposia and coordinate
courses.
(vi) Coordinating of course, project and practical work;
(vii) Preparing teaching/learning materials;
(viii) Setting and marking examination/assignments;
(ix) Maintaining discipline in lecture rooms/halls;
(x) Developing proposals to attract research grants.
(xi) Writing journal articles and books;
(xii) Presenting academic papers in seminars/workshops or symposia;

(xiii) Peer-reviewing of publications to in academic journals;
(xiv) Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula;
(xv) Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
(xvi) Develop linkages and collaborations for student exchange programs; and
(xvii) Undertaking consultancy services.

6. DEAN OF STUDENTS - GRADE MNT15 (1 Position), Ref: MMU/EA/06/04/2018

Applicants for the position MUST possess the following qualifications and experience:

i. PhD degree in Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, or equivalent from an


institution recognized in Kenya.
ii. At least five (5) years administrative experience, three (3) of which as Deputy
Dean of Students Grade MNT14 or its equivalent.
iii. Have outstanding professional competence in administration or Management.
iv. Member of a recognized professional administration or management body
v. Computer Literacy

OR

i. Masters Degree in Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, or equivalent from an


institution recognized in Kenya or Equivalent from an institution recognized in
Kenya.
ii. At least ten (10) years administration experience, three (3) of which as Deputy
Dean of Students Grade MNT14 level or its equivalent.
iii. Have outstanding professional competence in Administration and Management.
iv. Member of a recognized professional administration or management body.
v. Computer Literacy

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation
for the supervision and management of all administrative and operational functions as
hereunder:
i. Coordinate of the formulation and implementation of policies for the Department
ii. Coordinate and preparation of annual departmental budgets and procurement
plans.
iii. Coordinate and preparation of annual work plans.
iv. Coordinate the Department staff performance appraisal

v. Enforce discipline and rules that govern students on a daily basis.
vi. Oversee provision of students counseling services in the University
vii. Oversee students elections
viii. Ensure smooth running of the Students Council.
ix. Identify sources of funds for needy students
x. To perform such other duties as shall be assigned or delegated from time to
time.

7. SENIOR SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT OFFICER I, GRADE MNT 13


(1 Position) - Ref: MMU/EA/07/04/2018

Applicants for the position MUST possess the following qualifications and experience:

(i) Have Masters degree in any of the following disciplines:- Logistics and
Supply Chain Management; Business Administration (Purchasing and
Supplies) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
(ii) Have Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines:- Procurement
and Supply Chain Management; Purchasing and Supplies Management;
Supply Chain Management; Procurement and Contract Management;
Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Procurement and Logistics
Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

(iii) Have served in the grade of Senior Supply Chain Management officer II
for a minimum period of three (3) years;

(iv) Have Certificate in Strategic leadership programme/governance Course


lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;

(v) Be a member of the Institute of Purchasing and Supplies or any other


recognized professional body;

(vi) Have Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution;


and

(vii) Have demonstrated outstanding professional competence in supply chain


management.

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-

(i) Providing input in the development, reviewing and implementation of
Procurement policies, strategies, regulations and procedures;
(ii) Coordinating purchasing, and control of materials;
(iii) Developing the Procurement manual and templates;
(iv) Ensuring internal auditing and evaluation of supply chain management
processes and procedures are undertaken;
(v) Coordinating the identification of unserviceable, obsolete and surplus stores
and equipment for disposal;
(vi) Carrying out negotiation in major contracts;
(vii) Ensuring effective use of e-Procurement system;
(viii) Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and ethical standards
relating to Procurement of goods, services and works;
(ix) Consolidating Procurement budgets and plans;
(x) Ensuring safe custody of procured goods;
(xi) Coordinating preparation and maintenance of assets register, transfer and
valuation;
(xii) Ensuring periodic stock taking and stock audit is conducted; and
(xiii) Supervising and developing staff.

The above positions carry competitive remuneration packages which include among
others, basic salary, medical cover, house, transport and leave allowances.
