TITLE: LV SWITCHGEAR INSTALLATION AND TESTING.

5.1 Responsibility

5.1.1 The responsibility for carrying out this Method Statement shall be that of the
Discipline Engineer/ Foremen, unless otherwise specifically mentioned in this
procedure. The Quality Engineer/ Discipline Engineer/ Foremen shall be
responsible for inspection & testing.

5.1.2 In case of conflicting requirements with the manufacturer’s instructions or

Customer’s specifications for installation and testing, then such requirements
shall prevail in addition to the non-conflicting requirements of this procedure.

5.2 Preparation

5.2.1 The type, model and rating of the switchgear(s) to be installed shall be
identified from the applicable electrical drawings / specification.

5.2.2 The equipment to be installed shall be inspected, and it shall be ensured that
the equipment is free from damages.

5.2.3 The packing list shall be verified against the item(s) for completeness of
supply. Any parts supplied loose during shipping shall be removed during
erection of the equipment. Such loose parts shall be assembled as per the
instructions of the manufacturer after erection of the equipment.

5.2.4 The equipment foundations shall be checked for compliance of the

foundation bolt hole location, size and type. Any variation in the foundation
shall be corrected prior to installation of the equipment. The equipment shall
be installed and fixed / grouted on the foundation in conformance with the
applicable drawing(s).

5.2.5 For switchgears supplied in different shipping sections, the individual

shipping sections shall be placed together and levelled as per the GA
drawing. The sections shall be assembled to form one single switchgear.

5.2.6 The bus bars for power, control supply and earthing of the various sections
shall be interconnected as per the wiring diagrams. For connecting the bus
bars, the hardware and accessories supplied along with the switchgear shall
be used.

5.2.7 After levelling the equipment, the smooth in / out operation of the
withdrawable type modules shall be checked.

5.3 Initial Checks

Initial checks on the installed switchgear as detailed in the applicable section

of LV Switchgear Installation Check Form No. M & E QC~Form- 004-01/
REV. 0 shall be carried out and the results shall be recorded.

5.4 Ductor Testing

The Ductor test for checking the contact resistance of the Circuit Breaker,
Isolator and Bus Bar Joints shall be carried out and the results shall be
recorded in the Ductor Test Form No. M & E QC~Form- 004-02/ REV. 0.

5.5 Circuit Breaker Test

5.5.1 When the switchgear is provided with circuit breakers, checks / tests as
detailed in Circuit Breaker Testing Report Form No. M & E QC~Form- 004-
03/ REV. 0 shall be carried out and the results shall be recorded.

5.5.2 If the LV switchgear is provided with independent CT operated protection

relays, other than integral overloaded short circuit protection, then the
tripping of the breaker through these relays shall be checked.

5.6 Starters / Switch Fuse Unit Test

5.6.1 When the switchgear is provided with starters and / or switch fuse units,
such items shall be checked / tested as per details in Starter / Switch Fuse
Unit Testing Form No. M & E QC~Form- 004-04/ REV. 0, and the results
shall be recorded.

5.6.2 When withdrawable type of starters / switch fuse units are used, it shall be
ensured that the male and female contacts of both power and control is
mating properly establishing proper connection.

5.6.3 Remote interlocks, if any, provided for starter modules shall be checked and
verified for correct operation.

5.7 Electrical Connections

5.7.1 The incoming and outgoing cables to the switchgear shall be connected as
per the applicable drawings. The terminations and glands provided shall be
as per specifications.

5.7.2 The control earthing between sections, if any, shall be provided as per the
applicable termination drawings.

5.8 Earthing

The switchgear shall be connected to the earth grid, at least at two different
locations, using earth conductors / cables as specified in the drawings. It
shall be ensured that the earth continuity bar in the switchgear is connected
properly.
