This chapter presents the reviews of related literature and studies that
are relevant and similar to the current study.

study.

According to Ayodele and Adebiyi (2013), study habits are the ways
performed by students in studying. They also added that the efficiency of the
study habits of students greatly affects their academic performance. Efficient
study habits bring about positive effects on the academic performance of the
students while inefficient study habits lead to academic failure.

Marquez (2009), came to the conclusion that the study habits of the
students depend on the factors affecting it. This includes time, environment,
skills and techniques they utilize during studying and more. She also added
that self-imposed interest on studying gives great impact on the study habits
of the students. If students get easily distracted on social networking sites
such as facebook, twitter, instagram, tumblr, and more affect the time
allotted by the students for studying. In addition, studying plays vital role on
the academic performance of the students. It does not only prepare students
in the class but also reinforces the lessons that has been taught to them.

According to Kyoshaba (2009), academic experience which is also

called as academic achievement plays an important role in an individual’s
placement, specifically in the academic institutions or job placement. He
also found out that most people are concerned on enhancing their academic
performance. Moreover, academic achievement determines one’s success in
life, academic position in school as well as the employability of one’s career.
The presented literature is closely related to the current study. It
discusses the factors that affect the study habits of the students which is
relevant and the same as the present study. However, it gives more focus on
the efficiency of the study habits of the students. The reviewed literature
encompasses first year high school students whose genders are verified for
the gender in this literature varies. It is still relevant to the present study
because the factors that affect the study habits of these students are
identified. Moreover, the problem of this study which is the factors that
affect the study habits was also discussed in this literature.

Related Studies

This section presents informations that are relevant to the present

study.

Khan (2016) came to the conclusion that gender has significant impact
on the study habits of the students. However, he found out their sex
difference has no significant effect on the interaction skills of the students.
He also added that socio-economic status has no significant effect on the
study habits of the students as well as to its interaction effect. Therefore, the
two aforementioned factors do not significantly affect study habits.

In his study, Aquino (2011) found out that there is a significant

number of freshmen students who belong to underachievers. He considered
this as a prevailing situation of the students with low understanding level
which is accompanied by discouraging achievement. He also added that high
achievers have better study habits and attitude as compared to low achievers.

As mentioned by Shark Crilly (2010) students need diversion from

studying to get away from fatigued and to get closer to success. He
considered balancing social activities with good habits will more likely find
concentration when studying. He also added that a ten minute break is
needed every after forty-five minutes or so by a student to gain mental
energy.
The reviewed study is closely related to the current study for it
discusses relevant and the same topic as the present study which is the
factors that affect the study habits of the students. However, it only
encompasses sex differences, socio-economic status and time management.
It also encompasses freshmen students which is still relevant to the current
study for it also identifies the factors that affect the study habits of the
students which as well as gives significant effect on the academic
performance of the students. The problem of this study which is the factors
that affect the study habits was also discussed in this literature.

Overall Summary of the Review

The reviewed literature and studies are closely related to the present
study of these discuss the factors that affect the study habits of the students.
However, these focus more on the efficiency of the study habits of the
students and how these directly affect the academic performance of the
students. The reviewed articles also give more focus on the factors which
affect the study habits of freshmen students only. These give significant
differences on the present study which aims to enhance the study habits of
students in all grade levels. Specifically, by eliminating the negative factors
which degrades the efficiency of the study habits of the students.
