Dear Educational Professional: June, 2018

I am extremely interested in an Assistant Principal position in your school district. As my resume indicates, I have
eight years of experience in teaching and five years in administration. I am confident that my well-rounded
approach will result in quality instruction, implementing positive school culture, supporting teachers through
differentiated interventions, and building a sense of community through communication. I would love to bring my
knowledge gained through these experiences to your school so that students and staff feel challenged, supported,
and valued.

My teaching experience has helped me to grow as an administrator and cultivate a school that supports effective
teaching and learning. I believe that a high-quality teacher can differentiate instruction to student’s cognitive
realities and learning needs; motivate students to learn; and fostering a safe and controlled classroom environment.
A teacher needs to comprehend the principles of student growth, development, and learning, and apply them
appropriately. I am a firm believer in student-centered learning where learning is achieved through experiences that
students find out in an inquisitive fashion. By learning actively rather than passively, students learn through cross-
curricular content that engages them in the learning process. To implement this, technology must be current,
interesting, and adaptable in any lesson while keeping students engaged as digital natives. Also, communication is
critical by obtaining feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding through
regular formative assessments. By setting realistic performance goals at the onset of a lesson and helping students
set and achieve their own goals, motivation becomes a natural progression to learning and success. Lastly,
classroom management and professionalism in the classroom is vital to promote positive student behavior and
creating an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of student involvement and self-concept. Based on my teaching
skills I was promoted to quasi-administration after three years of teaching.

My leadership experience as Dean of Students and, now as Assistant Principal, has taught me to become an
advocate for my students and teachers. I have learned that fair is not always equal and that getting to know a whole
student is more successful in creating interventions that lead to success. During my tenure, I have created new
policies such as a digital hall pass initiative and truancy reduction program. Since the implementation of this policy
there has been a 34% decrease of tardies and 29% decrease of unexcused absences. As far as school wide-
discipline during my tenure, there has also been a 57% reduction in class disruptions and 29.5% decrease of dress
code violations. These results have led to a more orderly school environment where students and faculty feel
welcome and focused.

Due to my leadership and educational skills, I am confident that I would make a significant contribution to the
continued success of any school district. I would be very interested to be a candidate for your school and can
schedule an interview at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Stefanie M. Corcoran
