NEW! Elementary Physical Education courses integrate healthy lifestyle habits and activities to help students be their best.
The learning scaffolds on the previous lessons to provide developmentally appropriate activities and builds on skills learned
in each grade level. Skill progressions help students learn how to throw, catch, kick, strike, dance, swim, and do some basic
gymnastics. Students learn how to eat a healthy diet, develop teamwork and sportsmanship, and strive for 60 minutes of daily

NEW! Elementary Spanish is an exploratory introduction to the Spanish culture and language. Students learn the target
language in a story-based framework, providing a fun and positive learning experience. Each lesson is taught through an

foundational skills in listening and speaking along with the introduction of Spanish literacy skills. The courses provide audio

NEW! FLVS Elementary Intro to Technology courses enable students to develop basic skills in computer science through
engaging and age-appropriate content. The courses will expose students, within developmentally appropriate stages,
to concepts such as problem solving and algorithms, security, privacy, copyright, computer programming basics, and
keyboarding skills. Students will learn block based coding in offline environments in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and
will build upon those skills in online coding environments in grades 2-5. In addition to the computer skills, the Technology
suite integrates standards from Social Studies, Health, and Language Arts with topics in each grade about safety and health
(online and offline), bullying/cyberbullying, and being a responsible citizen/digital citizen. The upper grades will complete
research projects focused on adaptive technology, social media, and/or robotics. The research projects require students to
evaluate reliable and relevant websites, organize research, receive and implement feedback, and produce a final product.
Collaboration and communication are also focused on in each grade level as integrated language arts standards; math

Algebra 1
Algebra 1 emphasizes the importance of algebra in everyday life through hundreds of real-world examples. Assessments
are designed to ensure that your understanding goes beyond rote memorization of steps and procedures. Upon successful
course completion, you will have a strong foundation in Algebra 1 and will be prepared for other higher-level math courses.
Prerequisite: MJ Mathematics – Grade 7 Advanced or MJ Pre-Algebra – Grade 8.
This is a required math course for high school graduation.
Algebra 2
Starting with a review of basic algebra, you will learn polynomials, quadratic equations, exponential and logarithmic relations,
and probability and statistics. Throughout the course, these mathematical concepts are applied to everyday occurrences to
demonstrate how the world around us functions. Prerequisite: Algebra 1.
Calculus Honors

Liberal Arts Mathematics 1

Liberal Arts Math 1 will revisit key concepts from Algebra 1 and incorporate concepts from Geometry to prepare you for your

Anatomy and Physiology

Explore the human body and learn how you can help your body cope with many different situations. You will study the
structure, location, and function of various systems within the human body and how these systems interact. Prerequisite:
Biology 1 recommended.

Explore the structure, function, diversity, and evolution of living matter by taking an in-depth look at the fundamental
characteristics of living organisms. You will have the opportunity to perform hands-on lab activities and develop relationships
through collaborative learning.
This is a required science course for high school graduation.
Chemistry 1
UPDATED! This course provides a foundation for learning chemistry concepts, including: scientific inquiry, interactive
experiences, higher-order thinking, collaborative projects, real-world applications, and a variety of assessments.

Earth/Space Science
This laboratory course focuses on the study of space and the geologic and atmospheric forces that shape our world. Through
experimentation and investigation, you will explore Earth’s cycles, including the geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere,
atmosphere, and carbon cycle.
Forensic Science 1
UPDATED! Fingerprints. Blood spatter. DNA analysis. Discover how clues and data are recorded and preserved, and
examine some of the basic scientific principles that guide forensic laboratory processes like DNA testing, toxicology, and
material analysis. This course reviews criminal investigations, with a focus on pathology, autopsies, and crime scene analysis,
as well as techniques and practices of forensic scientists during a crime scene investigation (CSI).

Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE)

With a focus on health and fitness, this course guides you to be active and healthy now and for a lifetime. With the guidance
of a training instructor, you’ll set personal goals in four areas of wellness: physical, emotional, social, and academic. The
course uses videos, graphics, and interactive learning opportunities to encourage you to get up, eat well, and be active.
This course provides elective credit and fulfills the physical education requirement for high school graduation (district

Outdoor Education
Develop your skills in outdoor activities like boating and hunting, and learn about the benefits of physical activity while using
proper safety procedures to experience wildlife and outdoor and extreme sports. By meeting all the requirements of the
course, you will be eligible to obtain a state of Florida Hunter and Florida Boating Safety ID Card. Exclusive to FLVS students

Personal Fitness
Aimed at lifelong fitness, this course guides you in strategies and techniques to make continual improvements in all areas of
wellness. With the guidance of a training instructor, you’ll set personal goals in four areas of wellness: physical, emotional,
social, and academic. This course uses videos, graphics, and interactive learning opportunities to encourage you to get out
and be active. By following personalized training principles, you can gain confidence from personal success while developing
healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

World Languages
Satisfactory completion of two consecutive credits of the same world language is required for university entry.
Chinese 1
Learn conversation elements in Mandarin Chinese, including greetings, introductions, and the exchange of basic information

Learn how to introduce yourself and others, share your interests, and talk about the weather, all in the language of Molière.
Explore the rich culture of France including historical sites, foods, and sports through interactive activities, written practice,

French 2
Expand your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French through interactive videos, dialogues, and self-checks.
Grow your vocabulary and learn to discuss activities in the past, future, and conditional tenses. Explore the francophone

Latin 1

Career Research and Decision Making

This course will show you how to prepare for, get accepted to, and pay for college. You will explore different career and

a successful future. Throughout the course you will be coached by Mawi Asgedom, a Harvard graduate and a student

This course provides elective credit and fulfills the character education requirement for high school graduation.
Creative Photography 1
Develop your photography knowledge, including the basics of lighting, shutter speed, and composition. Gain an
understanding of professional photography, learn what creates an eye-catching photo, and build a portfolio of images.
This course provides elective credit and fulfills a performing/fine art requirement for high school graduation. You must have
access to a digital camera to take this course. Cell phone cameras do not meet the requirement.
Criminal Justice Operations 1

Explore the fields of law enforcement, the court system, and the correctional system. You will acquire technical skill
proficiency, industry knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, general employability skills, and
occupation-specific skills needed in all aspects of law, public safety, and security careers.
This course provides elective credit. Due to the nature of criminal justice, the material can be graphic.
Critical Thinking and Study Skills

Increase your success in high school and beyond by learning proven study techniques and test-taking skills. This half-credit
course teaches the ACE test-taking method to increase scores on key tests such as the ACT, SAT, and tests for graduation.
Throughout the course, Mawi Asgedom, a Harvard graduate who was the first in his family to attend college, will coach you.
Mawi is a student success expert who has trained more than a million students.
Driver Education/Traffic Safety

Begin to develop safe driving skills by studying the Highway Transportation System, road signs, rules of the road, and how
to make good choices behind the wheel. This course fulfills the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles
(DHSMV) required completion of the Traffic Law & Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course. As an added benefit for
completing the course with FLVS, you will also be eligible to take the Class E Knowledge Exam for licensing online for FREE!
Prerequisite: Must be at least 14 and a half years old.

Build your foundation in music skills as you learn music notation, music styles, and full-strum chords. You will play the guitar,
learn practice skills, and perform for your teacher throughout the course.
This course provides elective credit and fulfills a performing/fine art requirement for high school graduation. No prior
music experience is necessary, but you must have your own six-string guitar and a way to record and submit a video
performance to your teacher.
Intensive Reading
This course enables you to strengthen the development of your reading and writing skills. Lessons emphasize reading
comprehension, interactive text-based discussion, writing fluency, vocabulary study, research, and collaboration opportunities.
Journalism 1
Explore a career in journalism and learn how to write a news story, a feature story, and an editorial. Throughout this course,
you will learn best practices for conducting research and interviews, analyzing the reliability of sources, and self-editing.
Prerequisite: MJ Language Arts 3 recommended.
This course provides elective credit and fulfills a practical art requirement for high school graduation.
Law Studies
What are your rights as an American citizen? In this course, you will investigate aspects of family and consumer law,
and learn how the state and federal court systems work. Gain an understanding of the judicial system and examine key

Leadership Skills Development

Succeed in high school, college, and beyond by taking your future into your own hands. In this two-semester course, you will
learn how to take action, manage your time, chart your goals, and many other leadership techniques. Throughout the course,

Life Management Skills

Learn how to deal with real issues that impact your everyday life, such as nutrition, substance abuse, stress, and health. This

Gain the skills to help you succeed in all areas of your life. You will learn how to take action, set goals, manage your time, and
help your peers. This course is recommended for English Language Learner (ELL) students but open to all students.
Peer Counseling 2
Increase your confidence and build your social skills as you learn how to conquer peer pressure, social anxiety, and the
unnecessary risks that can derail your future. In this course, you’ll discover how your “super-charged” teen brain really works.
By the end of your training, you will have new power to direct your own life and lead your classmates.

NEW! You will learn the academic mindsets and study skills for success with this inspiring follow-up course to Peer
Counseling 1. You will learn to accelerate your language acquisition in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You will also
learn how to get organized, prepare for your classes, and improve your test scores. This course is recommended for English
Language Learner (ELL) students but open to all students.
Personal and Family Finance

Why do we pay taxes? How do credit cards work? Learn proper money management skills and how to achieve financial
success in this one-semester course. Find out how to avoid common financial mistakes, how to invest in your future, and how
to manage your personal and family finances effectively.
This course provides elective credit. It does not fulfill a math requirement for high school graduation.

Reading for College Success

This course will provide you with the necessary tools to become successful in both academics and in the workplace. Reading
is a vital skill needed to effectively take notes, summarize the main idea, and separate fact from opinion. This course
empowers you to achieve your goals in higher education and in the career of your choice.
This course provides elective credit. It is designed for 11th and 12th grade students needing to pass the CPT or PERT
college entrance exams and whose college placement scores are below the established cut score indicating that they
are not “college-ready” in Reading (CPT, below 83; SAT, below 440; ACT, below 18). This course is NOT intended for FSA
preparation or remediation for students in grades 6-10.
Social Media 1
Explore the history, developments, risks, and rewards of using social media. Discover how your individual contributions and
influence can be enhanced with the appropriate use of social media. Using your own social media account, you will examine
how your interactions can generate change, inform others, and leave a lasting effect.
Theatre, Cinema, and Film Production

Explore the elements of theater and cinematic techniques used by those who create performance productions. As you
progress through the course you will view the historical development of different genres and the reasons why they were used.
You will also be exposed to a detailed view of film and theater backstage operations and asked to speculate on why a director
chooses certain perspectives.

Career and Technical Education (CTE)
CTE electives prepare students with the academic, technical, and employability skills needed for the high-skill, high-wage,
in-demand careers of tomorrow. Students pursuing certain Florida Bright Futures Scholarship programs must take at least
three full credits in a single Career and Technical Education Program of Study (POS). A POS is a comprehensive, structured
approach for delivering academic and career and technical education to prepare students for postsecondary education and
career success. Students who fully complete select industry certifications may earn college credits for use in selected college
degree programs—contact your school counselor for details.
Digital Information Technology

This exciting course provides you with the foundational skills needed for future careers in a variety of technological fields.
You’ll explore emerging technologies, digital design, Microsoft Office online applications, operating systems, and much more!
Learn your strengths and how they relate to potential career opportunities.
This course provides elective credit, fulfills the character education and practical art requirement for high school
graduation, and serves as a prerequisite to many exciting CTE POSes.
Foundations of Programming
Learn the skills required to be competitive in today’s high-tech workforce. This course covers the fundamentals of
programming using the computer language Python. It provides you with the concepts, techniques, and processes associated
with computer programming and software development. You’ll also explore the vast programming career opportunities
available in this high-demand field. Prerequisites: Digital Information Technology (or Introduction to Information
Technology) and Algebra 1 recommended.

In today’s interconnected world, it is web design that connects everything together. In Foundations of Web Design, you
will explore interactive, real-world scenarios to learn basic web design principles. From HTML to Adobe Dreamweaver and
Photoshop, this course builds a strong foundation of web design skills. Prerequisite: Digital Information Technology (or
Introduction to Information).

Procedural Programming

User Interface Design

CTE Industry Certification Preparation
CTE industry certification preparation courses are designed specifically to prepare high school students for the official
industry certification exam. There is an array of certification areas available for students who have mastered the industry

Before being formally enrolled in the course, students are required to send a valid course transcript to verify mastery of
content and students must pass an industry certification standards based Discussion-based Assessment (DBA). Student will
