Disc Burning Software
1. InfraRecorder (Windows)
InfraRecorder is a free, open-source CD and DVD burning application for Windows.
InfraRecorder covers almost any of your optical needs, including support for burning
disc images, copying discs, creating quick audio CDs, writing video DVDs, erasing
discs, and more

2. ImgBurn (Windows/Linux)
ImgBurn is a free CD and DVD Swiss Army knife for Windows (it also runs on Linux
under Wine). ImgBurn can write data from a variety of formats, burns audio CDs,
ISOs, and video DVDs, including regular DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray DVD. As an added
bonus, ImgBurn can read a disc to an image on your hard drive and build a disc
image from files on your computer. It's fast, easy to use, and doesn't cost a penny.

3. K3b (Linux)
K3b (which stands for KDE Burn Baby Burn) is an open-source burning application for
Linux. Like the rest, K3b supports common tasks like burning audio CDs, data discs,
disc images and disc copying. For movie lovers, K3b can even rip your DVDs to your
hard drive in either of the popular DivX or Xvid formats. If you're running Linux, K3b
is easily one of the most popular options for burning anything to your optical discs.

4. CDBurnerXP (Windows)
CDBurnerXP is a free authoring software for Windows. Despite its name,
CDBurnerXP works with Windows Vista, 2000, 2003 Server, and XP; it also burns to
CD and DVD, including HD and Blu-ray. It's got a small footprint, and like most of the
other options, burns data discs, audio CDs, and ISOs without a hitch. CDBurnerXP is
light, fast, and free

Nero 9 is a shareware optical media authoring tool for Windows that's long
been the go-to favourite for robust, user-friendly CD and DVD burning for a
price.

of email attachments, decompress RAR, ZIP and other files downloaded from
Internet and create new archives in RAR and ZIP file format

4. PeaZip
PeaZip, multi-platform portable file browser and archive manager utility, is meant to
deploy a single graphic user interface for multiple Open Source data compression
technologies (7-Zip, Free Arc, UPX, ZPAQ), to provide an unified user experience for
many file-management tasks on multiple devices and systems, as free alternative to
traditional Zip file utilities as WinZip and WinRAR.

5. 7-Zip
7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. You can use 7-Zip on any
computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to

Antivirus Software

1. AVG
AVG Antivirus Free is an antimalware security suite that includes an active file and
email scanner, plus Web browsing protection. Avast Software (AVG's main
competitor) bought AVG Technologies in October 2016, but the two brands and
product lines remain separate

2. Avast
From Avast Software: Lightweight, state-of-the-art protection that won't slow down
your PC. Avast Free Antivirus has been redesigned to be easier to use while staying
light on your PC. It offers proprietary, cutting-edge CyberCapture technology that
finds and stops unknown files, as well as improved Wi-Fi Inspector which can
identify even more weak points in your router.

3. MalwareBytes
Malwarebytes (formerly Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, abbreviated as MBAM) is an
anti-malware software for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Android that finds and
removes malware. Made by Malwarebytes Corporation, it was first released in
January 2006. It is available in a free version, which scans for and removes malware
when started manually, and a paid version, which additionally provides scheduled
scans, real-time protection and a flash-memory scanner

4. McAfee
McAfee VirusScan is an antivirus program created and maintained by McAfee, Inc.
(formerly known as Intel Security, and Network Associates prior to that) .

McAfee Antivirus software works to block viruses from entering your computer
system and kill or quarantine viruses that have some broken through the firewall.. It
also protects users from potentially dangerous email attachments. The software will
prevent individual devices from spreading viruses, malware, and spam to other
computers and devices

5. Norton
Norton Antivirus software is a program that protects computer and stops viruses,
spyware, worms and Trojan horses from entering and causing harm. Norton
Antivirus performs constant scans to computer to protect it as you surf websites,
download files and open email.

Norton Antivirus is automated and it runs as soon as you turn on computer

Types of Viruses and their Effects

1. Boot Sector Virus


This virus types impinge on the disk and the hard drive that holds small section
referred as the sectors. Master Boot Record in the boot purposes the function of
reading and loading the operating System.

Effects:
Once the boot sector is virus attacked they become infected when your
reboot the system with the infected diskette it spreads through the hard drive

2. File Infectors
File infector, as the name suggest is the computer virus that easily infects different
files that has been stored in a machine. Among many computer viruses this is the
most frequently organized one that inflict significant damages.

Effects:
This virus infects executable files or programs. On running the programs, the
virus would be activated, then be able to carry out its damaging effects.
Most of the existing viruses are in this category.

3. Resident Virus
resident virus is a kind of computer virus that hides and stores itself within the
computer memory, which then allows it to infect any file that is run by the
computer, depending on the virus’ programming.

Effects:
A resident virus will load its replication module into memory so it does not
need to be executed for it to infect other files, rather it activates whenever the
operating system loads or operates a specific function.

This virus may be one of the worst kinds as they can affect the system
thoroughly even attaching itself to anti-virus applications which allows it to infect
any file scanned by the program.

4. Polymorphic Virus
A polymorphic virus is a piece of code that is characterized by the following
behaviour – Encryption, Self-multiplication and changing of one or more
components of itself so that it remains elusive. It is designed to avoid detection as it
is capable of creating modified, copies of itself.

Effects:
its code every time the infected file is executed. Thus, it becomes nearly
impossible for any ordinary antivirus to track it down.

5. Macro Virus
The mini-programs increase their ability to automate some operations, in which case
they would be performed as single actions. The user would therefore be saved the
trouble of executing them singularly.

Effects:
This virus affects files created using particular programs or applications
containing macros

6. Email Virus
An email virus is a virus that is sent with or attached to email communications.
While many different types of email viruses work in different ways, there also are a
variety of methods used to counteract such challenging cyberattacks.

Effects:
Generally, these kinds of viruses infect computers through social interaction
with someone who e-mails the end user.

They may be asked to verify a billing statement or look at an invoice attachment.

Upon opening the attachment, the macro is fired off and runs and infected the
computer.

7. Browser Hijacks
The most common types of viruses seen in 2014 – 2015 that have a high impact on
users are Browser Highjack viruses. Generally this type of infection is not really a
virus but something called PUP or Potentially unwanted software.

Effects:
In most cases these browser highjacks change the users home page and
search settings in the web browser and often make it extremely hard to remove and
restore the default settings.

Often times these kinds of browser highjacks get installed from bundled software
that may include free programs such as computer games or wall papers.
