Older infant:
NOTE: Venous blood gases can be used to assess acid-base status, not
oxygenation. Pco2 averages 6–8mmHg higher than Paco2, and pH is
slightly lower. Peripheral venous samples are strongly affected by the local
circulatory and metabolic environment. Capillary blood gases correlate
best with arterial pH and moderately well with Paco2.
