REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter gives the description and importance of courses comprising a curriculum to

the skills developed by the graduates and its relevance to employment.

Review of Related Literature

Foreign Literature

Rasmussen (2011), in a published journal, stated the findings of U.S. Bureau of Labor

Statistics that two-thirds of jobs will require post-secondary education by 2018. This means that

college degrees are becoming critical aspects of a successful career. In the future, one may not be

able to get their dream job unless they have a formal education that prepared them for the

working world.

In order to make the most of a degree program, it is important to complete the course

requirements. Most colleges require a blend of both core courses that are focused on the degree

program and elective courses that expand on the interests and fundamental critical thinking skills.

Core courses include subjects that teach necessary and valuable information that are

directly related to the field of study. For instance, in an Accounting degree program, classes

about taxation, business law, financial reporting and auditing will provide knowledge a student

needs to succeed in the workforce.
