(Mafukuzela, as he was
affectionatley known) was born in
Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal) in
1871 and died in 1946. He was an
essayist, philosopher, educator,

novelist and poet. He was also the
first president of the ANC. He
built the Zulu Christian Industrial
School also known as Ohlange
High School in 1901, a missionary
school that has gone on to
produce some of the country's
leaders. He also started a
newspaper, IIanga lase Natal,
which was published in Zulu and
is still in existence today.
Sefako M Makgatho Sefako Mapogo Makgatho was Presidential 11 May 2012 Gauteng Sesotho and
born in Ga-Mphahele in 1861 in guesthouse English
the Pietersburg district, Nothern
Transvaal (now Limpopo) and
died in Pretoria in 1951 at 90
years of age. He studied

Makatini was born in Durban in guesthouse
1932 and died in 1988. He was a
member of the ANC National
Executive Committee. In 1966, he
was appointed ANC chief
representitive in Algeria; he was
later appointed head of the ANC
Mission to the United Nations in
1977, and later head of the ANC's
Department of International
Affairs. His remains were
exhumed in Lusaka in Zambia and
repatriated and reburied on 27
February 2010 in
