Type of calculations Mathematical Operators

1. String calculations + for addition

2. Numeric calculations - for subtraction
3. Logical calculations * for multiplication
% for remainder
4. Boolean Calculations
^ for exponents
5. Date & Date Time Comparison Operators =,>=,<=,<>
calculations
Logical Operators AND, OR and NOT
Calculated Fields

1. Create a new Ad-hoc calculation to show Sales/Profit for each Sub-

category. Save this new calculation as Sales Profit Ratio
2. What is the average delay based on Ship Mode?
3. Create “Sales Header” based on total sales. Categorize total sales as a)
between 1 and 100,000 b) between 100,000 and 300,000 and c) Above
300,000.Show graph for Product Subcategories
Row vs Aggregate level calculations
Row Level Calculation run over every row in the data regardless of what's in the view,
so would typically be something along the lines of: Profit Margin %, for each Row,
[Profit]/[Sales]
Aggregate Calculations, are run over the level you had in the view. For Eg: As an
aggregate calculation it would be SUM([Profit])/SUM([Sales]). Depending on what level
you have in your chart this would always SUM up all the Profit and divide by SUM of all
the Sales

Q. Show which Sub-categories are performing above and below the Sales
target (call this Sales Target?) – at individual level (250) or at overall level
(500K)
Waterfall charts

1. Simple bar chart

2. Running total
3. Gantt chart
4. Size the negative variable
5. Add the colour
6. Show the Grand Total!!!

Sorting Stacked bar charts

1. Create a chart with Category on Colour Marks, Market on Column

shelves and Sum(Sales) on Row shelves
2. Create a combined field of Category with Market
3. Drag combined field to Detail Marks
4. Sort the combined field by Sum(Sales) in descending order
5. Finally drag the Category to Detail marks
Reference Lines

1. Make a chart to show Sales for each Product Category within Years. Add
Avg lines for each Category
2. Add Reference Bands to highlight the Min and Max Sales for each
Product Sub-category within the Categories
Parameters

1. Creating Parameters – Show parameters – Use parameters – Editing

Parameters
2. Make a Parameter to choose the top X customers by Sales
3. Edit the “Target Met?” field to make the Target dynamic
