Tutorial 1:

Basic shapes, swatches and layers

Step 1: Create new file

Open a new document: File => New.
Chose Web as preset (1024 x 768 px).
Click OK.

Save your document: File => Save as.

Name the document and save it on your desktop. Save as .psd.
Step 2: Draw a shape
Now you must draw some shapes. Select the shape tool and draw a rectangle. Press the Shift key
while drawing if you want a equilateral square.

You can change the colour or give your object a stroke in the options bar.

Now select the Elipse tool and draw a circle (press the shift key while drawing).
Select another colour for the circle.
Now select the Polygon tool. Write in 3 sides in the optionsbar. Now you can draw a perfect
triangle.

Step 3: Name the layers

As you may have noticed, you now have three new layers in your layers pallette.
You can name the layers by double clicking on the layer. Type in the name and hit Enter

Step 4: Changing the size

Now you must change the size of the square.
Select the square. Either you can select the right layer in the layers pallette or you can turn on the
Auto Select function in the top toolbar.
When the square is select you choose Edit => Free Transform. Now you can transform the shape
by dragging the corners of the shape. Press the Shift key if you want to change the size
proportionally.

You can also change the orientation by dragging the corners. When you are satisfied with the size
and orientation, you hit Enter.
Step 5: Copying layers

You are quiet satisfied with the circle you made and want to copy it. Go to layers and choose your
circle – now drag it down onto the New Layer icon.
Remember to save your document while working.
