Lesson Idea Name: Multiplying Radical Expressions

Content Area: Algebra 2

Grade Level(s): 11th

Content Standard Addressed: MGSE9-12. A. APR7: Understand that rational expressions form a system
of analogous to the rational numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
by a nonzero rational expression; add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions.

Technology Standard Addressed: Teachers design, develop and evaluate authentic learning experiences
and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in
context and to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Students will design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and
resources to promote student learning and creativity.
Selected Technology Tool:
☒ Blog ☐ Wiki ☐ Other: Website Creation Tool (list):

URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable): http://parhamsramblings.edublogs.org/

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☐ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☒ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☒ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☐ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students will utilize graphic organizers which illustrate the explicit
examples of how to answer each question and use this as an example moving forward to solve the
problems that we work through. Ziegler et. al (2017) declares that utilizing explicit instruction along
with other supports can serve as a great way to not only engage your students but aid in their ability
to access the curriculum.
Lesson idea implementation: Students will work to learn new information. Dividing, and multiplying
radicals. Students will copy down information from the board and work with me as I walk around the
room to ensure that everyone is on task and understanding what is being done. Students will work on
their ALEKS assignment which is our online homework which allows them to practice the material we
have learned thus far. It provides worked examples and they have our assistance should they need it.

I will walk around and do a brief check in with each student and ask if they would like me to send
them any supplemental instructions to better understand the material. If they say yes it will be placed
on “edublog” for them to access it.

Importance of technology: Utilizing ALEKS is very important as it serves as a supplemental resource for
the students however, the students can also access supplemental resources on the blog.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Students must share with their parents the information that is
given on this blog and bring back a signed permission slip showcasing that their parents are aware
and will also be given access to the blog. Furthermore, students must also be sure not to showcase
any overly personal information. It is important to note that one of the guidelines to the given before
accessing this blog is to remain professional and ensure that they follow the rules of the classroom
just as if they were in physical class.

Reflective Practice: Although I have done assignments like this before, one thing that I would like to
incorporate more is the students being able to create their own pages and share that with myself, and
their peers. It would be interesting to see what the students come up with as they progress through
the year.
