EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

TVS MOTOR COMPANY is the third largest two-wheeler manufacturer in INDIA and one
among the top 10 in the world. It distributes bikes in INDIA as well as in foreign country like
Indonesia, Argentina, Bangladesh, Egypt, Peru, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan etc.

This project report has been prepared on the organizational study which is focused within
VIJAYAPURA. TVS Motor Company is competing with so many two wheelers manufacturer &
distributor like Hero, Honda, Bajaj, Suzuki, & Yamaha in the world.

This project has been completed with help of organizational soft copies & reviews obtained from
customers of TVS.
OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

 To determine the importance of the showroom in vijayapura.


 To gain familiarize the different departments in the organization and their functioning.
 To study the teaching facilities provided by the institution.
 To analyze the position of the showroom in the present competition in the Vijaypur
Automobiles Sector.
 To have a brief view of further customer preferences among bikes.
 To study the organization structure of the showroom management.
HISTORY

TVS was established by T.V.Sundaram Iyengar. Sundaram Iyengar was born in 1877 in
Thirukkurungudi in the Tirunelveli district of Madras Presidency, British India. He began with
Madurai’s first bus service in 1911 and founded T.V.Sundaram Iyengar and Sons Limited, a
company that consolidated its presence in the transportation business with a large fleet of trucks
and buses under the name of Southern Roadways Limited. When he died in 1955 his sons took
the company ahead with several forays in the automobile sector, including finance, insurance,
manufacture of two-wheeler, tyres and components. The group has managed to run 33
companies that account for a combined turnover of nearly $3 billion.

EARLY YEARS

Sundaram Clayton then the flagship company, was founded in 1962 in collaboration with
Clayton Dewandre Holdings, United Kingdom. It manufactured brakes, exhausts, compressors
and various other automotive parts. The company set up a plant at Hosur in 1978 to manufacture
mopeds as part of a new division. A technical collaboration with Japanese auto giant resulted in
the joint-venture Ind Suzuki Motor Corporation. Commercial production of motorcycles began in
1984.

 Most Trusted Brand: - TVS is India’s most trusted brand in the two-wheeler category.
 Exports: - TVS Motor Company has been awarded ‘Star Performer - Silver Shield’ in
two/three wheeler category, by EEPC India, for excellent export performance for year 2007-
08.
 The Deming Prize: - TVS Motor Company is the only two-wheeler company in the world to
be awarded the world’s most prestigious and coveted recognition in Total Quality
Management.
 Technology Award 2002 from Ministry if Science , Government of India for the successful
commercialization of indigenous technology for TVS Victor.
 Asian Network for Quality Award 2004:- TVS Scooty Pep won the prestigious ‘Outstanding
Design Excellence Award’ from Business world and National Institute of Design.
 Progressive Manufacturer 100 Award: - TVS wins coveted 2009 Progressive Manufacturer
100 Award for the end-to-end automation of the entire business process of its lubricant
brand.
 TPM Excellence award 2008 – first category by Japan Institute Plant Maintenance (JiPm)
 Emerging Corporate Giant in the Private Sector awarded by The Economic Times and the
Harvard Business School Association of India.

MILESTONES

1980 TVS Motor launched India’s first two-seater 50sec moped TVS 50

1984 The two-wheeler major became the first Indian company to introduce 100cc Indo-Japanese
motorcycles.

1994 It launched India’s first catalytic converter-enabled motorcycle, the 110cc. Launched
India’s first 5-speed motorcycle, the Shaolin.

2000 Launched TVS Fiero, India’s first 150cc.

2001 Launched TVS Victor, 4-stroke 110cc motorcycle, India’s first fully indigenously designed
and manufactured motorcycle.

2002 TVS becomes the world’s first two-wheeler company to win the world’s most prestigious
recognition in Total Quality Management, The Deming Award 2002. TVS wins the Technology
Award from Ministry of Science, Government of India for successful commercialization of
indigenous technology.

2004 Launched TVS Centra, a world class 4-stroke 100cc motorcycle with revolutionary VT-I
engine for best in class mileage. Launched TVS Star, a 100cc motorcycle ideal for the rough
terrain. TVS wins TPM Excellence award from Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM).
TVS wins Outstanding design Excellence Award for TVS Scooty Pep.

2005-06 TVS launched its Indonesian plant. Launched TVS Apache, which set the youth’s
imagination on fire. Apache went on to be the Bike of the year for 2006, winning six prestigious
awards.

2007 TVS Motor Company rolls out seven new products. TVS launches its Himachal Pradesh
Plant at Nalagarh.

2008-09 Apache Refresh with Rear Disc Brakes was launched in December 2008. TVS Motor
company bags two converted IT awards in September 2008 __ SAP ACE 2008 Award and 2008
Symantec South Asia Visionary Award. Scooty Pep was launched with balancing wheels in
August 2008. Scooty Wimbledon Collection launched in June 2008. Apache RTR FI was
launched June 2008. TVS Motor Company launched the revolutionary 125cc Flame in March
2008. TVS made by its foray into the three-wheeler market with TVS King in March 2008.

2009 TVS unveils High performance with Apache RTR 180 in June 2009. TVS scooty Streak
was launched. TVS Flame SR 125 launched was June 2009.

1. SALES DEPARTMENT

In the sales department the vehicle with different model are separated. They have the categorized
and separated the vehicle with the high performance, the vehicle with style. They have sub
divided in different department with different vehicles. Each department gives service of the
respective vehicle. Here in sales department the service is given to the customer at presales at the
end of the post sales. This department work is to provide the information, knowledge and
provide financial facility to the customer at the time of presales. At sales they keep good
relationship and even the sales person keep in touch with the customer.

The main function of this department are:

 Stock checking
 Enquiry follow ups
 Sales report
 Test ride
 display
2. SERVICE DEPARTMENT

In the service department they have several labours that are skilled technicians in the works. they
prefer the works in efficient manner and very loyal to their work. This department provide the
competitions and it form with a set of instructions were in service person writes down the
remedies for those problems. There 13 employees working in this department. Everyday nearly
45vehicles are serviced at Vijay automobiles.

Here the head of service department Mr.Santosh is responsible for all the work and he supervise
the work according to the instruction received.

3. SPARES DEPARTMENT

Spares department is the place where all type of spare are available.

Spare parts of TVS scooter/bikes provide customer to attach with the company because any
damage in bike of customer or any mislead in the bike of the customer can take him to the show
room for reinstallation. Spare department is very much essential for the company.

Here the head of spare department Mr.Ranjit who is responsible for maintaining the all types of
spares as well as maintaining the records of the customer who visited for the spares.

The function of this department are:

 Monthly order as per requirements


 Sales of spare parts to the customers
 Quality
 Closing the goods
 Dispatch information
 Stock clearance and sales report are submitted on monthly to the account section
4. HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT

Vijay automobiles has separate human resource department which looks in to daily
administration. It is the bridge between the employees management and out of the organisation.

Human resource practices carried out at Vijay automobiles:

 RECRUITMENTS:

 The department concern will get the requisition format in the prescribed form approved by
the responsible person. The requisition after approval is been forwarded to HUMAN
RESOURCE department. The requisition format clearly indicate the type of vacancy of
employee required and the proposed date of requirement.
 On receipt of approval requisition from the concerned department or section. The HUMAN
RESOURCE department will notify the vacancy and adv in the news paper or to the
employment exchange.
 Screening of application received will be jointly screened by the HUMAN RESOURCE
department for the further action.
 SELECTIONS:

For the selections of applicants the HUMAN RESOURCE department will prepare short least of
few desired candidates. After initial interview by the HUMAN RESOURCE manager.

Short listed candidates will put them up for final interview. Where by the human resource
manager and the general manager both will sort of candidates for the final interview.

The head of HUMAN RESOURCE department is Mr.Amit.


5. ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT

Finance is blood on any organisation as it acts as lubrication for smooth functioning of the
organisation. In Vijay Automobiles accounts of all concerns and branches are maintained by
main office in show room Vijaypur.

Separate accounts book are maintained for each concern and at the end of the financial year
annual report is declared calculating profits and loss by considering total sales and add the
expenses including wages, salaries, advertisement etc.

Vijay automobiles sells vehicles by getting financial assistance to its customer.

The head of account department is Mr.Satish.


6. PURCHASE DEPARTMENT

The main object of purchase section is getting right material, at right place, by right time, at right
price. The purchasing function is usually performed most economically and efficiently by a
specialised, centralised purchasing department, directed by a skilled purchasing manager.

The purchasing activities may be divided into those that are always assigned to the purchasing
department and those that are sometimes assigned to some other department. The followings are
some of the important functions which are necessary to be performed.

 Receiving indents
 Assessment of demand or description of need
 Selection of sources of supply
 Receiving of quotation
 Placing order
 Making delivery at the proper time by following up the orders.
 Verification od invoices
 Inspection of incomings material
 Meeting transport requirements of incoming and outgoing materials
 Maintain purchasing records and files.
 Reporting to top management
 Creating goodwill of the organisation in the eyes of the suppliers.
 SUGGESTION:

Vijay Automobiles is working very effective. All the heads of department are working according to their
responsibility even though some improvement can be in the company as follows:

 Improving the quality of sales and services


 Increases sales capacity to the maximum potential
 Facilities should be increased such that customer get satisfaction.
 Quality man power should be increased to meet customer needs and services.
 Workers should be punctual and dedicative.
