One night in December 1918, at 1 o’ clock, a group of Serbian officers,
accompanied by soldiers and a group of the worst scum, hired to terrorize the honorable and peaceful population, carried out an abominable crime in Nikšić, aiming to nullify the authority of the church, that is, of the saints-patrons of the Montenegrin nation and Montenegrin state. They made three coffin-shaped wooden chests. One had “St. Peter“ written on it, the second one “St. Basil“, and the third one “Montenegrin crown“. These coffins were carried through the town in a church procession manner, thereafter stopping at the town square, where they dug three graves, in which the three coffins were buried. After that they held office for the dead, which is done in the Orthodox Church before funeral. As the Orthodox Church custom of liquid offering is to pour wine and perfumed oil over a grave, Serbian officers instead pissed publicly over the graves.
