BIAG NI LAM ANG

( PEDRO BUCANEG)

PEDRO BUCANEG – Was a Filipino poet also known as the FATHER OF ILOCANO
LITERATURE , he is the acknowledged author of the Ilocano epic “ Biag ni lam ang”

CHARACTERS:

Lam-ang - the son of Don Juan and Namongan

Don Juan - the father of Lam-ang

Namongan - wife of Don Juan

Ines Kannoyan - wife of Lam-ang

Sumarang - the enemy of Lam-ang.

SETTING:

In the town of Malbuan and in the rich Valley of the Naguilian river

CONFLICT:

When Lam-ang dreamed that the enemies savaged his father and cut off his
father's head. He rushed to the village where the enemies live and killed every
single one of them, one-handed.

EXPOSITION:

Don Juan went to the mountains, In order to punish a group of Igorot enemies.
While he was away his son named Lam-ang was born.

COMPLICATION:

When Lam-ang dreamed that the enemies savaged his father and cut off his
father's head. He rushed to the village where the enemies live and killed every
single one of them, one-handed.

CLIMAX:

Waiting for his father to return, Lam-ang decided to look for him.

DENOUEMENT:

The parents agreed to a marriage with their daughter if Lam-ang would give
them a dowry valued at double their wealth. Lam-ang had no problem fulfilling
this condition and he and Ines were married.

RESOLUTION:

It was a tradition to have a newly married man swim in the river for the rarang
fish. Unfortunately, Lam-ang dove straight into the mouth of the water monster
Berkakan. Ines had Marcos get his bones, which she covered with a piece
of cloth. His rooster crowed and his dog barked and slowly the bones started to
move. Back alive, Lam-ang and his wife lived happily ever after with his white
rooster and gray dog.
