TDM Service Features
The MA5600T supports three types of TDM private line
network application.

Features of MA5600T VLAN
Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a division of a local area
network logically rather than physical arrangement of cables

A VLAN makes it possible to divide a physical LAN into different

broadcast domains logically.

IEEE 802.1Q specifies the VLAN implementation scheme

Standard VLANs
A standard VLAN is the VLAN defined by the IEEE 802.1Q standard which
has the following features:

The ports in one VLAN are interconnected at layer 2

The ports in different VLANs are isolated at layer 2

Standard Eth port

On the MA5600T the standard VLAN can contain only standard ports (FE or
GE ports of the upstream card), but not the service ports

Smart VLANs
A Smart VLAN can contain standard ports and service ports
The Smart VLAN is used to partition user groups
Each user group is associated with one Smart VLAN.
When the number of VLANs on a MA5600T is limited, you can use the Smart
VLAN to give access to more users than a MUX VLAN.

Management Method
 Management Through the CLI
The terminal communicates with the MA5600T through serial port or Ethernet port
(maintenance port or uplink port).

 Management Through the N2000 BMS

The N2000 BMS communicates with the MA5600T through Ethernet port
(maintenance port or uplink port) by SNMP.
The advantages of using the N2000 BMS :
The N2000 BMS monitors, predicts, and detects network faults, which helps to improve the
reliability of the network running and the quality of service (QoS) of the network operation.
The N2000 BMS helps to analyze the service bottleneck so that the network resources can be
properly planned and allocated.
The N2000 BMS manages the vastly-distributed network nodes in a centralized manner, thus
reducing the operation expenditure (OPEX).

Copyright © 2010 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page53
CLI Mode
In the CLI mode, you can manage and maintain the MA5600T
after logging in to it through the serial port or Ethernet port.

Copyright © 2010 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page54
GUI-Inband Mode
In inband mode, the network
management interaction information is
delivered over the service channel
provided by the managed device .
The advantage is that the network
is flexible and does not need
additional devices. This helps to save
money for customers.
The disadvantage is that
maintenance tasks cannot be carried
out when the service channel is
faulty.

Copyright © 2010 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page55
GUI-Outband Mode
In outband mode, the management
channel is independent of the service
channel.
 Advantage: more reliable, When
the service channel of the MA5600T
is faulty, the fault can be located
and monitored in time.
The disadvantage of the outband
networking is that additional devices
are required to provide the
maintenance channel that is
independent of the service channel
