SUMMARY

Jannah, Amanatul 2018. Development of Scientific Approach Based Module in the

Topic of Colloid for Senior High School Students Grade 11TH. Thesis,
Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, State
University of Malang. Advisors : (1) Dr. Endang Budiasih, M.S. (2) Dr.
Yudhi Utomo, M.Si.

Keyword : colloid, scientific approach, 4D model.

Colloid is one of the materials in chemistry that requires memory and

sufficient understanding, because the colloidal material is closely related to
everyday life. Colloid has several characteristics, including : 1) has many foreign
terms to be studied such as : condensation, adsorption, electrophoresis , etc, 2)
most of it is conceptual and non-algorithmic understanding, 3) it is both concrete
and contextual. Learning strategy which is not yet ccompatible with colloid has
made many students have misconception and do not understand the lesson.
The 2013 curriculum is prioritizing scientific approach to the learning
process. Scientific approach is a process of learning through 5M activities which
are observing, asking, collecting data, associating, and communicating that
students actively construct the concept independently. The use of specific learning
strategies requires appropriate teaching materials. The purpose of this development
is to produce teaching materials in form of teacher modules using scientific
approach that meets feasibility in terms of content, appearance, layout and
language.
This module was developed using 4D model from Thiagarajan et al, 4D
model consists of 4 stages which are define, design, develop, and dessiminate, but
this development is limited to the develop stage. Modules developed by
Researchers are validated by expert validators based on the assessment
questionnaire. The data obtained in the form of quantitative data and qualitative
data. Quantitative data in the form of percentage score from questionnaires and
qualitative data in the form of suggestions and comments provided by expert
validators and test legibility by small groups.
The validated development result by expert validator obtained a score of
95.2% with very eligible criteria for the student module and a score of 92.9% with
very eligible criteria for the teacher module, the results of the legibility test by
small groups with 10 students obtained a score of 87.2% with very eligible
criteria.
