I've been reading a series of books called

"The Practical Scrai Metal Small Arms Volumes 1 thru 4 .

The first volume covers a Self Loading Pistol design out of scrape meta;. The second a Box Tu
Mac 11 The third a diy Sten Gun and finally the 4th book The Khyber Pass Pistol .

Does anyone know the country of orgin or the real name of the author ? They read simularly to
Lutys books?

He's somewhere between Luty and Bill Holmes. I like his style, but I kind of hope he stays down
below the radar.

If you do make a book like that please make sure to state clearly that the box tube MAC design is
NOT fit to be chambered for any live ammunition more potent than .32acp as the bolt is very
light.

The author mentions adding lead or tunsten to the bolt if someone were to build a firing model.

I weigh a cobrat 11/9 bolt at 370 grams amock up bolt at the size he mentions came out to about
290 with a sq bolt insert.

What eeight would you suggest for an 32 auto ?

Orion's Hammer is the member here who build an AR lower out of wood. It worked.

Thanks backbencher . I remember the wood ar 15 receiver . iThe ammunition chart with bolt
weighs waqs just what I needed to review. I din't realize that the 9mm required more weigt than
a 38 special for the bolt.

I just downloaded the 5 volume set "the Machine Gun" that he refers to from Scribd.

Chinn's books are a big help, particularly Volume 4.

The chart that suggests a bolt weight gives the weight of 473 grams for a bolt for 380 acp. I
weigh a slide from a Mauser Hsc in 380 acp and got 198.5 grams which is far less than the chart .
Would'nt a 200 gram bolt work for 380 acp ? Using the same spring ? The weight and spring
works for the Mauser . What do you think ?

Thanks for the tip Pistolet Makarova.

I misunderstood your pm but I checked scribd and volia two more Professor Parabellum books
and better yet both pn MACs. I got olume 5 and six now. Iscanned over thru the books aqnd
found methods of weight addition to the bolt. Funny since we were discussing that in our earlier
posts. Its as if the author was reading this thread.

Chart has too heavy values, it is nearly useless for anything above pistol calibers.

I've had no problem using a standard weight sten bolt in a closed bolt blowback, so the chart is
on the HEAVY side.

Bear in mind that genious that created the chart neglected the usage of closing spring as
"completely irrelevant",

so maybe the chart weight is adjusted to that standard
