SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF


THE JOB : Management of the Welding Engineering Team including:
• Control and maintenance of all Welding engineering systems,
including NADCAP and customer specification requirements.
• Technical interface at SABB for welding related matters,
responding to customer requests and issues
• Support Continuous Improvement ,with the identification and
implementation of World Class welding processes
• Support NPI

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Responsible for the control of all welding processes at SABB, Fusion and Resistance
 Maintenance of all accreditations required to support the company’s production facility
 Responsible for the auditing of welding function and subsequent adherence to customer and specification
requirements
 Responsible for the training of all welding staff
 Responsible for the management of the welding engineering department which consists of a team of welding
Engineers. With responsibility to organise and control the activities within the department to achieve the
strategic business requirements.
 Responsible for investigating new welding technologies, proposing and implementing within the business in a
controlled manner in order to support business objectives.
 The job holder is accountable for a departmental budget and performance targets against objectives set by
the strategic requirements of the business.
 To manage and improve performance, including providing support and mentoring to the welding functions of
the business
 Identify and organise suitable training and development for all welding engineering personnel in order to
improve their core skills and efficiency.
 To fully support the company’s goal of creating an environment of continuous improvement based upon lean
principles and to encourage, by example, employee involvement and commitment.

KEY DUTIES:

1. Further develop and maintain a system that ensures that all welding functions are compliant to NADCAP and
specific customer requirements.
2. Ensure that all documentation for welding control is suitable, and that it meets the requirements of the
international standards and customer specifications required.
3. Ensure that all welding personnel maintain the levels of qualification required to meet the customer and
international standards required. Supporting documentation and matrices will be updated and accessible to
others within the business.
4. Responsible for the qualification of all welders and for qualifying welding procedures as required
5. Responsible for all welding dispensations within the business
6. Ensure that all welding equipment is maintained and calibrated at all times to support production
7. Train and deliver training to the company’s welders to keep them in line with international and company
requirements
8. In conjunction with the Head of Engineering be responsible for ensuring that the New Product introduction
process delivers a robust product utilising methods that are designed to reduce waste and are standardised
where practicable.
9. Improve Product Quality, in conjunction with the Quality manager, and guide trouble shooting of existing
processes, non-conforming parts, fixtures, tooling and equipment
10. To plan and authorise holiday leave within the department whilst ensuring sufficient cover is in place

11. Maintain positive proactive relationships with internal departments, customers, suppliers or others as
appropriate to support the aims of the company for sustained efficiency improvement and long term growth
12. Maintain a high standard of health and safety within the department and ensure that all practices support the
company’s environmental and health and safety policies.
13. Ensure that all work activities and records comply with Company Policies, Procedures, fundamental processes
(FP00) and Codes of Practice.

• Training for welding engineers and qualification of welders and welds
 Investigation and implementation of new welding equipment and processes to business
 Dispensations for quality issues
 Support for welding requirements for NPI

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

 Preferably qualified by degree In Welding,  Qualified as an International welding Engineer
