Indonesia is the largest country in Southeast Asia and
the fourth-largest country in the world by population
with around 261 million people. However, there is near
unanimity among scientists in Indonesia that the country

Beyond these issues lies the larger one of a low national
investment in research and development. Indonesia’s
gross research and development investment is less than

DIPI is governed by two separate entities namely a Board of Management led by an Executive Director, and a Science
Steering Board. The Science Steering Board determines scientific agenda, strategy, and research priority. It consists of
notable scientists from universities, research institutions, members of AIPI, and representative of policy makers. The
governing board reports to and is evaluated by the AIPI General Assembly.
