Liêntừ (linking verb) ( Anh 11 Thí Điểm)

Có một nhóm các động từ đặc biệt có chức năng nối giữa chủ ngữ và vị ngữ tính từ. Không giống các
động từ khác, chúng không thể hiện hành động. Do vậy chúng được bổ nghĩa bởi tínhtừ chứ không phải
phó từ. Người ta gọi chúng là liên từ hay hệ từ (linking verb). Đó là những độngtừ ở bảng sau:

be appear feel become seem look remain sound

grow smell stay taste

Mary feels bad about her test grade.

Chil dren become ti red qui te easil y.
Lucy looks radiant in her new dress.
They were sorry to see us leave.
The flower smells sweet.
The soup tastes good.

Liên từ có các tính chất:

· Không diễn đạt hành động mà diễn đạt trạng thái hoặc bản chất sự việc.
· Đằng sau chúng phải là tính từ chứ không phải là phótừ.
· Không được chia ở thể tiếp diễn dù dưới bất cứ thời nào.

Be, become, remain còn có thể đứng trước mộtcụm danhtừ chứ không chỉ tính từ:

They remained sad even though I tried to cheer them up. (adj ecti ve)
He remained chairman of the board despi te the oppositi on. (noun)
Children often become bored at the meeti ngs. (adj ecti ve)
She become class president af ter a long campaign. (noun)
Mary will be happy when she hears the good news. (adj ecti ve)
Ted will be a bri degroom thi s year. (noun)

Feel, look, smell và taste cũng có thể l à ngoại động từ khi nó có tân ngữ trực ti ếp. Trong trường hợp đó,
nó trở thành một động từ mô tả hành động thực sự chứ không còn là một linking verb và do đó nó được bổ
nghĩ a bởi phó từ chứ không phải tính từ. Chúng được phép chi a ở thì tiếp diễn. Nghiên cứu các ví dụ
sau:

The doctor felt the leg carefully to see if there were any boken bones
Mike felt happy after passing his law school exam.
Professor Bob looked at the experiment happily.
You don’t look happy today.
The lady is smelling the flowers gingerly
After being closed up for so long, the house smell musty.
The chef tasted the meat cautiously before prenting it to the king.
The cake tastes delicious.
