Lesson idea implementation:

First, I will show the students my PowerPoint over the parts of a plant. We will then go over each slide and
have a short discussion over the parts. I will ask the students questions to reach higher order thinking like :
Besides these four parts, what else do we know about a plant? What do you think the plant uses to get
energy? Why do bugs love plants so much? I will then instruct the students to get into partners.

With their partner, they will be creating a book over the different parts of the plant using markers and
crayons. They will be able to use my PowerPoint as reference, as well as all of the plant books in our class
library. After all of the students are through, we will have each student present their books to the class. They
will be able to take notes as well as ask questions over their peer’s presentations. After everyone presents, I
will even pass around the different books so the students can look at the drawings more closely.

Reflective Practice:

During this lesson, the students will be able to view and assess my PowerPoint, as well as create their own
original book using the information they learned. To extend the lesson, we will go on a nature walk outside
and pick a few flowers to bring back to the classroom. We will then compare our parts of the flowers to our
drawings and talk about the similarities. This will give the students a more hands on experience with the
plants.
