NetBanking Services - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. What is Internet Banking?

Internet Banking channel provide customers a strong internet platform to manage their
accounts effectively. Using NetBanking facilities, customers can view their account
details, conduct online Funds transfers and do e-Commerce transactions online. It is a
strong effective internet tool helping people across the globe to manage their account
operations online anytime.

Q. How I can avail NetBanking Services?

You can avail Oriental Bank’s NetBanking services by submitting duly signed
application form to our branch office where you need to provide your account number,
address details etc. You may download the application form from our corporate website
https://www.obcindia.co.in (“Forms Warehouse” link available at bottom of the Home
Page) or you can also download it from NetBanking website login page i.e.
https://www.obconline.co.in.

Q. What Security measures have been implemented in your NetBanking


Application so as to ensure safe and secure transactions?

Our Bank has implemented strong security measures for NetBanking operations. Our
website is certified by VeriSign thereby complied with International Standards and is
regularly audited by external security agencies. Further it is ensured that all the data
from customer's system to NetBanking server and vice-a-versa is transferred in
encrypted manner. Thus the confidentiality of customer's data is ensured when he/she
performs any activity in the Bank's NetBanking system.
In case of funds transfer through Internet Banking, the transactions can be undertaken
through two steps viz

 After logging in to the Internet Banking site of the Bank through the enquiry password
stored in the server in encrypted form, as defined by the customer himself and

 Inputting the transaction password which is also stored in the server in encrypted
form, as defined by the customer himself.

As such, the transactions through Internet Banking are facilitated only after inputting of
valid passwords by the customer who only has the custody of these passwords. During
the first login, customer is forced to change their default password(s).
Q. What is Phishing?

Phishing is an attempt by fraudsters to gain private and confidential information, usually


by sending emails appearing to be from the customer’s Bank. The email addresses are
gathered / purchased by these miscreants through non-trusted public websites where the
user might have revealed personal information.

The message of the email contains text like “Due to upgrade of our system, we
encountered problem with your account. However, you will be unable to presently
connect to your online account. We therefore kindly ask you to follow the link below for
immediately update / validate your online account”. Thus, the user is encouraged to
click on the link in the email which leads to a fake website with similar look and feel as
that of Bank’s official website.

The fake website may ask the user to enter Customer Id, Account No., Password, Credit
/ Debit Card No., Card Expiry Date, CVV No. etc. and other confidential identity
information like Date of Birth, Mother’s Name, Phone / Mobile No. etc. Once this
information is entered, the fake website may redirect the user to official / authentic
website of the Bank to avoid any suspicion arising in the customer’s mind.

The fraudsters may use above information to gain access of customer’s account to
commit fraudulent transactions.

Q. What general precaution should I take while accessing NetBanking Application


and prevent myself becoming phishing victim?

1. NEVER access NetBanking Application through any Link. Always type the URL
https://www.obconline.co.in to login into the Internet Banking Application.
2. Always check for Padlock Symbol appearing on the status bar and click to verify
VeriSign Certificate
3. Kindly Change your NetBanking password at regular intervals to ward off phishing
risks.
4. Kindly do not reveal any sensitive information in response to any e-mail sent by
any person purported to be representing the Bank, as this might be a phishing
attack. Do Not Click on any link provided on such mails soliciting information
pertaining to your account.
5. Please check the URL first (https://www.obconline.co.in) before you login into the
NetBanking Application
6. In case you feel that you have compromised your NetBanking credentials on any
fake website, immediately inform the NetBanking Cell and also deactivate your
NetBanking Login yourself by putting wrong passwords several times for your
actual User.Id on the login page of our actual NetBanking site:
https://www.obconline.co.in.
Q. What steps have been taken by Bank to prevent customers falling prey to
phishing attacks.

It is an endeavor to make our NetBanking service more secure and to save our
customers from falling prey to phishing attacks, following additional steps have been
taken by our Bank:

 Availing SMS Alert facility has been made mandatory for NetBanking Customers. The
facility of transfer of funds to third parties including e-Commerce transactions through
NetBanking without availing the SMS Alert facility is not available now.
 The Bank has implemented "Beneficiary Registration Process" for both Intra and Inter
Bank 3rd Party Funds Transfer in NetBanking since 1st October 2010 to prevent
phishing attacks.

In process of registration of such beneficiary a “ONE TIME PASSWORD” is being


sent by the Bank’ NetBanking Server through SMS on the mobile number of the
customer already registered with the Bank for SMS Alert Service and registration of
beneficiary for fund transfer will be completed only by entering above “ONE TIME
PASSWORD” in the system.

 SMS alert messages for all credit / debit transactions in the accounts are sent to all
customers availing SMS Alert Service. Presently SMS Alerts for Debit transactions of
Rs.5,000/- and above and Credit transaction of Rs.10,000/- and above are sent to
customers. However in case the transactions are undertaken through ATM/ Debit
Card, SMS Alerts is sent irrespective of the transaction amount.

 For more safe and secure e-Commerce transactions, it has been made mandatory to
enter SMS based ONE TIME PASSWORD (except for Tax Payments)

Q. I am a non-resident Indian. How do I apply for Oriental Bank’s NetBanking


Services?

If you want to open the account when you are outside India,

1. Download and fill in the Oriental Bank’s NetBanking Application Form from
Bank’s website i.e. www.obcindia.co.in or https://www.obconline.co.in
2. Submit your Oriental Bank’s NetBanking application form with a copy of your
passport to the branch where you have accounts.
3. After receiving the User-Id from Bank, FAX/Email (with scanned signature) to your
branch to deliver PIN at your address.

Q. When I change the system generated User-id and Password?


It is mandatory for you to change the system generated passwords with your own
convenient passwords at first login. Further you can also change your passwords
anytime using <Personal Profile >>Security Setting>> Change password> menu Option.
You can change the Net Banking User.Id. using <Personal Profile >> Other
Setting>>Update User ID>
Q: Is user id and password case sensitive?

User id is not case sensitive whereas passwords are case sensitive.

Q: Can I have 2 user ids?


In case of jointly operated account with mandate as “Either or Survivor”, then for the
same account(s), there can be more than two User-Id(s). Otherwise one can have only
one User-ID against their various Account(s).

Q: I have accounts in 2 branches of Bank should I have separate user ids?


Customer should have only one Customer ID under which various accounts are opened.
The account(s) can be opened at any branch of the Bank. However for all Accounts, the
Customer ID remains the same. As such, customer can have single User ID to view his/
her Accounts opened at different Branches.

Q. How to choose passwords?

Please ensure to choose the password with minimum 8 characters having at least 1
numeric, 1 special character 1 alphabet (Either small case or CAPS) .Password should
be a combination of alpha, numeric & special characters. It shall make the password
more secure. Further you need to define separate Login and Transaction passwords.

Q. What are the good practices for creating a password?


You are requested to choose a password that is not a dictionary word and not guessable
from your personal information known to others such as names in the family, vehicle
numbers etc. You should change your password frequently. Please try to remember the
password and do not write it down or paste it somewhere. Last but not the least; do not
divulge your password to anybody even if they claim to be from the bank.

Q. What is the validity period of NetBanking passwords?

The validity of both SignOn and Transaction password is 180 days. You are however
advised to regularly change your both passwords using option <Personal Profile >>
Security Setting>>Change password>.

Q. I am currently availing “View Only” NetBanking facility, Now I want Transaction


facility also, what to do?

Kindly submit a written request to your branch office for issuance of Transaction facility
for your Account. Please quote your Account no and NetBanking User.id in your letter.
Within 7 working days, you need to collect your transaction password from your branch
office. Thereafter you can utilize the various payment facilities being offered through our
NetBanking Application viz. Online Fund transfer within OBC Bank Branches, Fund
Transfer to other bank Branches through NEFT/ RTGS, Online Shopping, Tax
Payments, Utility Bill payments etc.

Q. I have received the User.Id and password, but I am not able to login.
The first two digits of your password are of character type. So please ensure that you are
not reading l (L) as 1 (Numeric 1). Further kindly ensure that the browser being used at
your end is java enabled.

Q. How to register Beneficiaries.


Beneficiary is the 3rd party Account to whom payment is to be made. Customer need to
use “Manage Beneficiary” menu option to register separate Beneficiaries for NEFT,
RTGS and Within Bank Funds transfer types. Also during Beneficiary registration,
customer need to define the upper Transaction limit and number of transactions per day
permitted for that Beneficiary.

Q. I am trying to make a) Fund Transfer b) Make Tax Payments c) Online shopping,


but system is not accepting my password.

There are several reasons for this, please ensure that:-


1. You are having two different Passwords 1) Login password and 2) Transaction
password as without Transaction password you can not initiate any payment.
2. You have changed your transaction password first by logging into the Internet
banking website https://www.obconline.co.in before initiating any payment.
3. While making payments, you need to first enter your login password to authenticate
your User.id thereafter you need to enter your transaction password to authenticate
your financial transaction.
4. You have registered your account for SMS Alert facility, as without availing the SMS
Alert facility, you cannot initiate Funds transfer or do e-Commerce transactions.
5. Check the transaction amount falls under the transaction limits defined under the “Set
Limit” option and also under transaction limit defined for selected Beneficiary.

Q. How much Funds Transfer I can make through Retail NetBanking?

Customer can define his transaction limits (Number of transaction and Max Amount) for
various types of transactions like 3rd party funds transfer within Bank, through NEFT,
through RTGS and for e-Commerce transactions.

Visit option “Set Limit” under ‘Favorite’ menu to set these limits. The limits defined
hereunder must be below Bank’s overall transaction limits, which is presently Rs 25 lacs
per day. Customer can also define overall number of transactions per day and also
transaction-wise number of transaction under this option.

For tax payments, customers need not to define any transaction limits.

Q. Where and how transfer beneficiary can be added in a day?

Under ‘Set Limit’ option, customer can define number of Beneficiaries that can be added
per day.
Q. What happens if I forget my login password?
Not to worry. Password can be re-set online by Retail Users themselves using
‘Forgot Password’ link which comes after entering the User ID. The Retail Net
Banking user’s needs to visit on ‘Online Password Retrieval’ link on Net Banking
website’s login page. Also, new passwords may be obtained from the Bank
against a request in writing duly signed by concerned Users. The request may be
forwarded to the concerned branch.

Q. How to reset retail net banking password online?

The Password can be reset online:

a) Click on “Forgot Password?’ link provided on Bank’s Internet website login page,
just below the password text box.
b) Enter User.ID alongwith Birth date or PAN number on the screen which will be
authenticated online with Bank’s record to proceed further with next level check.
c) After authentication of above details, user will be prompted to select his registered
mobile number from the drop down box. Press on ‘Generate OTP’ button.
d) Enter the received OTP on the given text box.
e) On successful authentication of OTP, the system will finally prompt the user to
enter Debit Card credentials viz Card number, PIN, Expiry period and Primary
Account number linked with Debit Card.
f) The entered Debit card details will be validated online and thereafter user will be
prompted with a new screen to set fresh Login password and transaction
password online.
g) User has to set the password(s) as per guidelines provided on screen.
h) Click on ‘Submit’ button. The new passwords entered by the customer shall be
validated by the system to ensure compliance of password policies of the Bank
and the same shall be updated in the database.
i) The system shall display a message to the user that the new password is updated
successfully.

Q. What happens if I forget my User-id for Internet Banking?

The user-id can be retrieved online:

a) The Retail NetBanking users to click on ‘Online User ID Retrieval’ link on Net
Banking website’s login page.
b) The user needs to enter mandatory details for validations viz. Account number,
which is enabled for Retail Internet Banking along with PAN card number or Date
of Birth.
c) The system shall validate these details and sends a SMS based Unique
Reference No (URN) to the customer’s registered Mobile Number. In case these
details are not validated, the system shall display appropriate error message to
the customer.
d) The system shall prompt the user to enter URN and once the URN is entered, the
same shall be validated.
e) If the URN Number is correct, the system shall display the Account Number and
prompt the user to enter Debit Card Number and ATM PIN.
f) The user to enter his/ her Debit Card Number and ATM PIN which shall be
validated by the system through ATM switch and upon successful response from
ATM switch, the system shall display the User.ID.

Q. When I try to login, I am getting error ‘You login is disabled’, What should I do?

The NetBanking login gets disabled, if you continuously enter the wrong Login password
5 times. As such submit a written request to your Branch for issuance of new password
or email a scanned copy of your request to NetBanking cell on email.id
IBANK@obc.co.in.

Q. I am unable to login with the system generated Password and User-id.

 Passwords are case sensitive. Kindly be a little more careful while typing the
system-generated passwords for the first time.
 The first two characters of the password are Character type only and rest are of
Numeric and special character type, so please ensure that you are not reading l
(L) as 1 (Numeric 1). Further kindly ensure that the browser used by you is java
enabled.
 If the problem persists please get in touch with the branch.

Q. What happens if I don't logout?

Please ensure to logout in proper way. However, if you abruptly close your Internet
Banking page, your session will end. Kindly do not leave your system in between doing
Internet Banking, as this will give opportunity to others around you to operate your
accounts.

Q: I have not received my user-id or passwords.

You are requested to take up the matter with your branch. In case you have not received
your User-Id, branch will inform you the User.Id and check whether you have been
properly enabled for this facility and will check your communication address etc. In case
you have received the User-Id, the branch will issue you the sealed password (PIN).Also
User-id can be retrieved online too.

Q: I want to add more accounts in Internet banking services.


Internet Banking functions on the basis of Customer.ID, which is assigned to the
Customer at the opening of the Account. All Operative Accounts (SB/CA/CC/OD)
accounts, Deposit(s) and Loan Account(s) linked to your Customer.id will be
automatically displayed in the Internet Banking Services. Thus the user will be able to
view all type of account(s) using single User.ID and there is no need to put any additional
request.

Q. How I can avail SMS Alert facility?


Customers are required to submit duly filled application form to avail the SMS Alert
facility. The application is available at Branches and it can also be downloaded from
Bank's Web Site "www.obcindia.co.in (under Customer Service >> Forms Warehouse).

Q. Is it mandatory to avail SMS Alert facility for performing NetBanking


transactions?

Yes, it is mandatory to avail SMS Alert facility for performing any NetBanking
transactions. It is offered free of cost which you may avail by visiting any of our branch
office. For doing any funds transfer, you need to enter SMS based OTP, which you will
receive on your mobile registered for SMS Alert facility.

Q. What is OTP (One Time Password) and what is its use?


For more secure Funds transfer and e-Commerce transactions through NetBanking
Channel, a SMS based secret code called “One Time Password” is sent to your
registered mobile number. You need to enter this One Time Password while authorizing
your online transactions alongwith your User.ID and Transaction Password.

Q. How I can make Direct tax payments.

Both Retail Net Banking as well as Corporate Net Banking customers can pay their
Direct Tax payments online. The Tax payment counterfoils are generated instantly
online for customer record.

Steps for Direct tax payments:-


1. Visit website www.obcindia.co.in and click on OBC e-Taxes link.
2. Click on Direct Tax payments link.
( https://onlineservices.tin.nsdl.com/etaxnew/Index.html)
3. Select the appropriate Challan type and provide the desired details viz. PAN/ TAN
Number, Challan type, Assessment year etc.
4. Click on Proceed button, select ‘Oriental Bank of Commerce’ from the list of Banks.
5. The NSDL will divert the control to OBC NetBanking website.
6. Enter User Id and Login password.
7. Enter the Challan amount for selected Challan type and also select the Account
number from which payment has to be made.
8. Click on Pay button.
9. Enter the User.id and Transaction password to confirm and complete the transaction.
10. Online Taxpayer Counterfoil is generated instantaneously for the customer’s record.
11. To generate Duplicate Challans anytime, the customer can visit the following option :
Tax Payment >> Direct Tax Duplicate Challans Report.

Note:- Corporate customer who is initiating the tax payment must provide the
Approver details while entering the tax details and also note down the transaction
reference number, which is generated after giving the transaction password.
Thereafter APPROVER has to approve the Direct Tax transaction by visiting
Approvals option and giving the transaction reference number. This will generate
online Taxpayer Counterfoil.

Q. How I can make In-Direct Tax payments.


The customers of both Retail and Corporate Net Banking application can make online
payments for Central Excise and Service Tax.

Steps for In-Direct tax payments:-

1. Visit website www.obcindia.co.in and click on OBC e-Taxes link.


2. Click on In-direct Tax payment link.
( https://cbec.nsdl.com/ESTStatic/html/security/Index.html)
3. On CBEC-NSDL website, enter the Assessee Code and select the payment type i.e.
Excise tax or Service tax.
4. System will show you the address details of the Assessee.
5. At bottom, click on ‘Select Accounting codes’ for selected payment type. All types
of accounting codes will be listed here from which a maximum of 6 different
accounting codes can be selected.
6. After selected accounting codes, click on submit button.
7. System will show you all accounting codes, as selected by you.
8. At Bank Name, select ‘Oriental Bank Of Commerce’ from the drop down list and
click on ‘Submit to the Bank’ link.
9. The system will divert the control to OBC NetBanking website.
10. Enter User Id and Login password.
11. Now select the Account number from which payment has to be made and enter the
amount for different accounting codes, as selected by you.
12. Click on ‘Calculate Total Payable Amount’ link to sum up the total of all amounts of
different accounting codes.
13. Enter remarks and click on Pay button.
14. Complete Challan details are shown on the screen below which the user has to enter
the User.id and Transaction password to confirm and complete the transaction.
15. Online Taxpayer Counterfoil is generated instantaneously for the customer’s record.
16. To generate Duplicate Challans anytime, the customer can visit the following option:
Tax Payment >> View Tax Payments. Here the User needs to enter the Tax type
(Excise/ Service), Assessee code and transaction period to print the Duplicate
Challans for Indirect tax payments.

Note:- Corproate customer who is initiating the tax payment must provide the
Approver details while entering the tax details and also note down the transaction
reference number, which is generated after giving the transaction password.
Thereafter APPROVER has to approve the In-Direct Tax transaction by visiting Tax
Payment >> Payment Approvals section. Customer need to select the transaction
and then click on Approve button to generate online Taxpayer Counterfoil.

Q. How I can make RTGS/NEFT Payment through Internet Banking Channel

Both Retail and Corporate NetBanking customers can initiate NEFT/ RTGS
Transactions. However corporate customers have to make NEFT/ RTGS Payment as
per their workflow (Make-Checker concept). Using Internet Banking, funds through
NEFT/ RTGS can be sent only to pre-registered beneficiaries. The beneficiary
registration process is given below.

Q. What is the concept of cooling period

The concept of cooling period has been introduced Both in Retail as well as Corporate
NetBanking customers, where transaction in newly added beneficiary is allowed only
after 60 minutes of time period to avoid any unscrupulous transaction in the customer
Account.

Steps for making 3rd Party Fund Transfers through Internet Banking.

(a) Registration of Beneficiary Account and Initiation of Third party transaction


for Retail Net Banking

1. Click on the “Manage Beneficiary” option available under ‘Transactions” and


select “Add NEFT Beneficiary” or “Add RTGS Beneficiary”.
2. Enter the Beneficiary details viz. Account Number, Account Name, IFSC Code and
select Mobile Number. In case SMS Alert service is activated on more than one
mobile, select the Mobile Number on which “ONETIME PASSWORD” has to be
sent.
3. For NEFT/ RTGS payments, enter IFSC Code.
4. Click on “Self -Confirmation” button.
5. At this stage, an SMS will be sent on the selected registered Mobile number of the
customer, containing the secret “One Time Password”. Enter the above “One Time
Password” in the Net Banking Application option “Pending Self Confirmation”.
6. Customer can now proceed with Fund Transfer option “Initiate NEFT\Initiate
RTGS” to any registered beneficiary, to be chosen from the drop down list, including
the newly confirmed Beneficiary.
Note:-
1. For 3rd Party fund transfers, availing SMS Alert facility is mandatory.
2. Customers need to confirm all their new Payees with the “One Time Password”
3. Customers will be able to make 3rd party transfers only to the confirmed registered
Payees.
4. With the introduction of ‘cooling period’ during Beneficiary Registration, transactions
are allowed only after the period of 60 minutes.

(b) Registration of Beneficiary Account for Corporate Net Banking

 Click on <Transaction> option, select <Manage Beneficiary> under <Transaction


Support Service>
 Select the “Add NEFT\RTGS Beneficiary” option
 Enter the Beneficiary details viz. Account Number Account Name, IFSC Code.
 Validate the beneficiary addition through transaction password
 Now, Goto <Transaction> option, select<Pending Self Confirmation> under
<Transaction Support Service>
 At this stage, an SMS will be sent on the selected registered Mobile number of
the customer, containing the secret “One Time Password”. Enter the above
“One Time Password” in the Net Banking Application option “Pending Self
Confirmation”.
 Customer can now proceed with Fund Transfer option “Initiate NEFT\Initiate
RTGS” to any registered beneficiary, to be chosen from the drop down list,
including the newly confirmed Beneficiary

Steps for making 3rd Party Fund Transfers through Corporate Internet Banking.

 Login from maker ID and Click on <Transaction> option, select <Initiate


NEFT\RTGS> under <Transaction MANAGEMENT>
 Select Debit Account no, beneficiary accounts no, fill amount to be debited and the
date of transaction. After providing the details click on continue button
 In case of e-Corporate, Maker need to select the <next authorizer.id>, from the
lookup link, who will authorize the transaction after selecting approval provide
transaction password to validate the initiation of transaction from maker end
 A transaction reference number will be generated on the screen.
 For e-Retail application, the message “Successful transaction alongwith transaction
reference number’ will be displayed to user on screen. For e-Corporate application,
corporate authorizer will need to authorize this transaction by entering the
transaction reference number under <Approval> menu option.

(c) Authorisation for e-Corporate User (Checker)

 Visit <View Approval Queue> Section Under <Transactions>


 Screen will show all pending transactions, which are yet to be authorized.
 Select the transaction to be authorized and click on Approve button.
 Check the details of transactions viz. Beneficiary Name, Txn amount etc before
authorizing the transaction
 Authorizer will approve the transaction by giving his Transaction Password.
 Message “Successful transaction’ will be displayed to the users.
 Users can select <View All Transaction> option to view the various NEFT/RTGS
Payments.
