1-1 Preparing for Installation

SAS3 ExpanderXtoolsLite software may be used with either a Linux or a Windows operating system.
Following the instructions in the order provided will enable users to install and operate the software
in a short amount of time.

Installing SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite on Windows
1. Download SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite
2. Extract the SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite_V1.4.rar file into a working subdirectory.
3. Click on the ExpanderXtoolsLite.exe file in Windows folders.

Installing SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite on Linux 32

1. Download SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite
2. Extract the SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite_V1.4.rar file into a working subdirectory.
3. Click on the ExpanderXtoolsLite_32bit file in Linux folders.
# ./ ExpanderXtoolsLite_32bit

Installing SAS3ExpanderXtools on Linux 64

1. Download SAS3ExpanderXtools
2. Extract the SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite_V1.4.rar file into a working subdirectory.
3. Click on the ExpanderXtoolsLite_64bit file in Linux folders.
# ./ ExpanderXtoolsLite_64bit

2-1 In Band Connection

The following instructions will guide SAS3ExpanderXtoolsLite software users through the in band
connection procedure. Before updating the firmware, it is strongly recommended that you write down
the SAS identification numbers from the backplane.

Obtaining SAS ID Numbers and In Band Connection Procedures
1. Click the Scan Exp button to display the properties of current selected expander.

Downloading Firmware
1. Select the expander to be updated in the List of Expanders dialog box.
2. Region 1 must be updated before other regions.
Select Region 1 and click the Download FW button.

3. In “select fw file” window, select the file to be downloaded, usually sas3xfw.fw and
click Open

4. Wait until the download in Region 1 completes and the Download Successful message
will appear in the dialog box.

5. Repeated step 1 to 4 on Region 2 to complete update the Firmware.

Downloading the Manufacturing Image Firmware
1.Connect Primary expander.

2. Select the expander to be updated in the List of Expanders dialog box.

3. Click the Download MFG button.

4. In “select mfg file” window, select the MFG.bin file to be downloaded and click the Open
button.

5. Wait for the Download Successful message to be displayed in the window at the bottom
of the MFG dialog box.

For the EL2 expander FW and MFG update, proceed the same procedure as EL1
expander update.
