Driving Question/Essential Question: How can a train work without wheels or an engine? How does a Maglev train work?
Unit Summary:
In this unit, we will explore the topics of electricity and magnetism, and how they relate to each other, as well as to past topics of forces and energy. We will begin by
exploring static electricity, including how it relates to gravity (a topic from earlier in the course). As part of this, we will look at electric fields and interacting charged
particles. We will then look at continuous, or moving, electricity in circuit electricity. In circuits, we will see how electricity “flows” and sources of electricity. This will then
lead us into magnetism, specifically electromagnetism. We will look at how electricity and magnetism relate to each other, briefly explore how power and transmission work,
and, ultimately, be able to answer our driving question: How can a train work without wheels or an engine?
