INTRODUCTION

This is a report on the analysis of the scale sample retrieved from the well Lita
AC-2, in the Lita field. The scale was submitted for analysis on behalf of Repsol
YPF Maxus, Indonesia. The analyses performed were:

X-ray Diffraction Analysis

Solubility Analysis

SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
Sample was a mixture of oily organic residue and creamy white, brittle flakes.

ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES & RESULTS

SAMPLE PREPARATION
The scale was cleaned to remove the organics, then rinsed with methanol and
dried in the oven prior to analysis.

X-RAY POWDER DIFFRACTION:

X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) is an analytical technique that bombards a finely

powdered rock sample with monochromatic Cu k radiation and measures
intensity of the scattered beam versus 2-theta angle of the instrument. These
data are used in the Bragg equation to calculate d-spacing of the material(s)
present. Bulk XRD samples are prepared by mechanically grinding the sample to
a fine powder and backpacking the powder into a hollow-cavity sample mount.
XRD is used to provide semi-quantitative data on the relative abundance’s of
materials present in samples analyzed. Such information is critical to stimulation
treatment design.

RESULTS:

The result indicated that the sample scan closely matches and is possibly the
mineral ralstonite which is an aluminium magnesium sodium flouride hydroxide
hydrate, NaMgAl(F,OH)6. H2O. This is shown in the chart below.

However, the sample also matches closely with Aluminum Fluoride Hydroxide
Hydrate - AlF1.65(OH)1.35*xH20 and Potassium Magnesium Aluminum Fluoride
- KMgAlF6 and Ammonium Magnesium Aluminum Fluoride -
NH4MgAlF6 .

SOLUBILITY ANALYSIS

The sample was dried in the oven, prior to solubility analysis. A 2 gram portion of
the sample was accurately weighed into a beaker and tested with 100 ml of 15%
HCl for 3 hours at about 200F.

Acid solubility is calculated by the weight difference of the filter paper with, and
without, the residue and the original sample weight.

RESULTS:

Fluid Temp Solubility

15% HCl 200F 83%

CONCLUSION

The results indicated that the sample is likely to be a reaction by-products from
acidising with HF based acid.
