Review of Literature

India’s nearly 54 million telephone line network,

including mobile is one of the largest in the world and
second largest emerging economies (after China) with a vide
range of services basic cellular, internet, paging, V-Set etc.
Given the low telephone penetration rate about five per
hindered population which is much below the global
average. India offers vast scope for growth. It is therefore
not surprising that India has one the fastest growing,
telecommunication system in the world with an average
growth of above 22% for basic telephone services and over
100% for cellular and internet services. Telephone lines
added to the basic services network over the last five years
have been are and a half time that added over the preceding

INTRODUCTION

The Indian telecommunications Network is the fifth largest in the world and
is the second largest among the emerging economies of Asia. Today it is the
fastest growing market in the world. Private operators have made mobile
telephony the fastest growing (over 164% p.a.) in India.

With more than 33 million users (both CDMA and GSM), wireless is the
principal growth engine of the Indian telecom industry. Intense competition
between the four main private groups – Bharti (AIRTEL), Hutch (Vodafone),
Tata and Reliance and with the State sector incumbents-BSNL and MTNL
has brought about a significant drop in tariffs.

The Government has played a key enabling role by deregulating and

liberalising the industry, ushering in competition and paving the way for
growth.

My project is “” in which with the help of questionnaire I tried to answer

that to know the extent to which catchy plans affect buying decision of the
consumer. Also, it was tried to found out that to what extent sales
promotional tools alter existing preference.
SIGNIFICANCE

 The study will tell us about the percentage of people using each
network services.

 It will tell us the various factors affecting the brand preference.

 It will tell the producer the level of satisfaction the consumers gets
from the cellular providers.

 It will tell us the reason for their preference in choosing proper

networks.
REVIW OF EXISTING LITRATURE

idea cellular ltd.

Idea Cellular's antecedents date back to 1995, when the Aditya Birla group
and AT&T (through Birla AT&T Communications -Maharashtra & Gujarat

company to commercially start operation in circle other than metros and
achieve financial closure in Indian Telecom industry.

In the year 2000, the historic path-breaking merger of Tata Cellular with
Birla AT&T Communications and the subsequent acquisition of RPG
Cellular (Madhya Pradesh circle) in the year 2001 -helped take the company
to aim even further and led to the formation of Birla Tata AT&T Limited. In
year 2001, company introduced common brand "IDEA" and changed the
name to IDEA Cellular Limited.

RELIANCE INFOCOM

The Late Dhirubhai Ambani dreamt of a digital India — an India where the
common man would have access to affordable means of information and
communication. Dhirubhai, who single-handedly built India’s largest private
sector company virtually from scratch, had stated as early as 1999: “Make
the tools of information and communication available to people at an
affordable cost. They will overcome the handicaps of illiteracy and lack of
mobility.”

It was with this belief in mind that Reliance Communications (formerly

Reliance Infocomm) started laying 60,000 route kilometres of a pan-India
fibre optic backbone. This backbone was commissioned on 28 December
2002, the auspicious occasion of Dhirubhai’s 70th birthday, though sadly
after his unexpected demise on 6 July 2002.
TATA INDICOM

Tata Teleservices is part of the INR Rs. 96723 Crore (US$ 22 billion) Tata
Group, that has over 96 companies, over 250,000 employees and more than
2.8 million shareholders. With a committed investment of INR 36,000 Crore
(US$ 7.5 billion) in Telecom (FY 2006), the Group has a formidable
presence across the telecom value chain.

Tata Teleservices spearheads the Group’s presence in the telecom sector.

Incorporated in 1996, Tata Teleservices was the first to launch CDMA
mobile services in India with the Andhra Pradesh circle.

Starting with the major acquisition of Hughes Tele.com (India) Limited

[now renamed Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited] in December 2002
the company swung into an expansion mode. With the total Investment of Rs
19,924 Crore, Tata Teleservices has created a Pan India presence spread
across 20 circles that includes Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Gujarat, Karnataka,
Delhi, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab,
Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (E), Uttar Pradesh (W), Kerala,
Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.
COMPANIES PROFILE

Reliance Jio
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, doing business as Jio, is a LTE mobile network
operator in India. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance
Industries headquartered in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra that provides
wireless 4G LTE service network (without 2G/3G based services) and is the only
'VoLTE-only' (Voice over LTE) operator in the country which lacks legacy network
support of 2G and 3G, with coverage across all 22 telecom circles in India.

The services were first beta-launched to Jio's partners and

employees on 27 December 2015 on the eve of 83rd birth anniversary of
late Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Reliance Industries, [4][5] and later services were
commercially launched on 5 September 2016.

In June 2010, Reliance Industries (RIL) bought a 96% stake in

Infotel Broadband Services Limited (IBSL) for ₹4,800cr. Although unlisted, IBSL
was the only firm to win broadband spectrum in all 22 zones in India in the 4G
auction that took place earlier that year. [6] Later continuing as RIL's telecom
subsidiary, Infotel Broadband Services Limited was renamed as Reliance Jio
Infocomm Limited (RJIL) in January 2013.

In June 2015, Jio announced that it will start its operations all over the
country by the end of 2015.[8] However, four months later in October 2015, the
company's spokesmen sent out a press release stating that the launch was
postponed to the first quarter of the financial year 2016-2017.

Later in July, a PIL filed in the Supreme Court by an NGO called

the Centre for Public Interest Litigation, through Prashant Bhushan, challenged
the grant of pan-India licence to Jio by the Government of India. The PIL also
alleged that Jio was allowed to provide voice telephony along with its 4G data
service, by paying an additional fees of just ₹165.8 crore (US$25 million) which
was arbitrary and unreasonable, and contributed to a loss of ₹2,284.2
crore (US$340 million) to the exchequer.

RELIANCE JIO 4G BROADBAND

The company has launched its 4G broadband services throughout India in the
first quarter of 2016 financial year. It was slated to release in December 2015
after some reports said that the company was waiting to receive final permits
from the government. Mukesh Ambani, owner of Reliance Industries Limited
(RIL) whose Reliance Jio is the telecom subsidiary, had unveiled details of Jio's
fourth-generation (4G) services on 12 June 2015 at RIL's 41st annual general
meeting. It will offer data and voice services with peripheral services like instant
messaging, live TV, movies on demand, news, streaming music, and a digital
payments platform.
The company has a network of more than 250,000 km of fiber optic cables in the
country, over which it will be partnering with local cable operators to get broader
connectivity for its broadband services. With its multi-service operator (MSO)
licence, Jio will also serve as a TV channel distributor and will offer television-on-
demand on its network.

Pan-India Spectrum
Jio owns spectrum in 800 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands in 10 and 6 circles,
respectively, of the total 22 circles in the country, and also owns pan-India
licensed 2,300 MHz spectrum. The spectrum is valid till 2035.Ahead of its digital
services launch, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio entered into a spectrum
sharing deal with younger brother Anil Ambani-backed Reliance
Communications. The sharing deal is for 800 MHz band across seven circles
other than the 10 circles for which Jio already owns.

Reliance Jio’s vision for India is that broadband and digital services will no longer
be a luxury item ,Rather convert it into a basic necessity that can be consumed in
abundance by consumers and small businesses .The initiatives are truly aligned
with the Government of India's ‘Digital India’ vision for our nation.
