topic.
Include some factual information about the topic.
Include a description of the site and your initial impression and opinion of what
you see, the content and the site set up.
Cite the source using MLA.
Use correct grammar and spelling. (2 marks)

The topic I decided to research about is how to start up a business of your

own in Ontario. Starting a business of your own takes a lot of investment of
time and money. You have to have a vision of what you want your business to
be like and a goal, so where you see your business going in a few years. To
start off your own business you need a plan. You would need security, a
structure, a business name and a place to call yours. You would have to
make sure you a ready to take on this process and make sure you are
financial stable and are able to invest in your idea. Once the main
components are taking care of you then you have to start the registration of
your business. This would include setting up permits and licenses with the
Ontario government. You would have to commit and do the official registration
of the business online. Find an accountant to register for the HST/GST taxes,
payroll and control the money management in the business. Last but not
least, you would have to hire responsible employees to reassure that your
business is going to be running smoothly.

The site I used to gather some general information is a reliable source.

This website is Canada Business Ontario. This is effective and resourceful
information from the government. The audience is for people that are
interested in opening their own business. They have detailed information
about who to contact and start your process. The website is well layout with
the drop bar. Everything is labelled and easy to navigate around due to the
headers and subtitles. My initial impression would be that is a well-organized
and very informative website for beginners.

b. Now that you have become more aware of what to look for when
researching information on the Internet, look more critically at the web site
you referenced when you completed your paragraph in question # 4 using
the criteria the videos identified: Domain ending, Authority (author,
mission, About Us), Bias/Objectivity, Currency, Documentation, and
Scope
ii) Summarize your evaluation of the web site based on this criteria (copy and
paste the table below, into your document to help format/organize your
response). (6 marks)

Criteria Web Page

Authority The website is written by the Government of Ontario. This
organization has contact information about who you can
contact to access information about a specific topic for
business startup.

Bias/Objectivity There is no bias or objectivity in this information. The

information is general and informative for people who are
interested in starting their own business.

Currency The website was updated on 2017-12-14. This is quite

current and the information is updated. The policies and
regulations that have been changed are listed in the
information. The contact information for the people that
specialize in the every department are available.

This website supports the information that is provided on

Documentation their website. They provide documents that refer back to
each of the specific headers. For example, the taxation
area has a taxation guide under the information to get
further information.

Scope The purpose of this source does meet its purpose. The
information giving is reliable and very accessible. The
audience that are looking for this information can access
it through website or by contacting the phone number
provided.

Domain The domain of this website is that it is a Canadian

website. The .ca shows that it belongs to Canada.

iii) Write a brief paragraph to address: Did it pass all aspects of the criteria? Is it
missing significant components that would make you question the accuracy,

objectivity, domain or authority of the site? Would it be appropriate to use

this site for a research assignment for a significant college project? Why or
why not? What is your take away from this exercise; what did you learn, if
anything? Use correct grammar and spelling. (3 marks)

The website did pass all aspects of the criteria. The domain was
not a missing component but it did make me question it because it was
Government of Canada website. It belongs to the government but the
domain was just that belonged to Canada. It would be appropriate to use
this for a research project because it is current information. This website
also provides documents to support and provide more information about
the subject. The layout of the website is easy to navigate. Overall, the site
is informative and accessible for people that are interested in starting up a
business of their own.

After doing this exercise I have taken away that it is easy to get to
popular website but not reliable websites. The information can be old and
not updated. It is also very possible for the information to be incorrect
because everyone has access to the internet. So making sure the
information is effective by checking the domain and author is important.

5. Do an image search on any topic of your choice. Choose and save an image as
a .bmp or .jpeg file, take a screenshot of the ‘save’ window and paste into your
document.
Crop the image so only the ‘Save’ window appears, ensure I can see you
selected .bmp or .jpeg.
Cite the source using MLA.
Define a bmp and a jpeg file. (3 marks)

The definition of a bmp is bitmap image file.BMP images are device

independent there is no graphic adapter needed to open the image. These
files can be opened all windows operating devices and many other
software’s. The definition of a jpeg file is a joint photographic experts
group. This file is known to be compressed, some image quality are lost
during the compression process of these file. The jpeg files are often used
by photographers and people that use a lot of digital technology.
