The Romans 7:21-23,25 Effect

Meditate on God’s Word. Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:2

God commands us to meditate upon His Word, but what does it mean to

meditate? The Hebrew word for meditate is hagah and has to do with imagining,

pondering, muttering, or speaking. Personally read the Bible. Let God speak to you

through His Word. Think about what He says; muse over it and live it out. It will come

out when you speak. Many of us are guilty of breaking this clear command from God – I

know I am. Why though are many indifferent about their disobedience in this area? When

we disobey God and neglect to meditate on His Word, we are open prey for Satan to

attack.

Our problem is that we have a flesh, and Satan will use it to hinder us from letting

God work in our lives if we are not on guard. Satan will give you an excuse or

alternative. You already read It in class. You have other things to do; you are too busy.

Or he will tell us, You tried already to read the Bible each day and failed. When you

think about reading, you are reminded of failure, and nobody likes to think about failure.

Another strategy of Satan is the accessibility of people’s writings about the Bible. If you

need to know something, you can google it. You do not need to study the Bible itself, that

will take longer.

When we neglect the Bible, we are losing the lamp to our feat and the light to our

path. What can we do to keep God’s Word where it deserves to be in our lives? David

was a man after God’s own heart. He loved God’s Word and asked God to show him
wondrous things out of His Law. Read, meditate on, and pray Psalm 119 once a month

and see if you get a desire for the Word! “. . . . I have rejoiced in the way of [T]hy

testimonies, as much as in all riches. . . . I will delight myself in thy statutes. . . . My soul

breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times[Wow!]. . . . Make me

to understand the way of thy precepts. . . . Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not

to covetousness. . . . Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity. . . . “ The Almighty

Infinite God, Creator of the universe, loved us so much that He died for us! Why would

we not love what he speaks to us finite humans? When we truly love God, we will truly

love His Word and will meditate on it all the time! God’s Word is powerful Heb. 4:12,

Psalm 29. With It, He created the world and He gave It to us! We need to pray and ask

God to keep our focus on the main priority of life, not on the many vain cares of this

world.
