Creating new project in VI Composer:
Step 1: Select “New” in the “File /

Project folder” menu
Step 3: Select the

“VCP−Panel” for which you
want to create the project
Step 2: Select the

“Language” you want
to use
Step 4: Select the path where the project

is to be saved, enter your project name &
Click on Next
Step 5: Select communication

channel “BRC symbolic”
Step 6: Click onto the “Finish“ button

to generate new project

Linking the Symbol File:
Step 1: Select “BRC Symbolic” with

the right mouse button and select
“Parameters”
Step 3: Enter IP−Address

of the PLC−Controller to
which you want to connect
the VCP−Panel
Step 2: Select “Ethernet”

and click onto “Parameter”
button
Step 4: Click onto “OK”
button, to take over the
new settings
Step 5: Enter name for Step 6: Click onto “Browse” button to

“Communication” channel select the “Symbol” file of the
associated “IndraWorks” project

variables will be displayed

Working with the Screens:
Under the option Languages/First

Language/Screens, you will find some
default screens which will be displayed while
the VCP is in booting stage.
Creating New Screens:
Step 1: To create a new screen, right click

on option Screens & select New Screen
Creating New Screens :
Step 2: Enter the name for the

new screen and press enter
Displaying Plain/Simple Text on the screen:
To enter text in the screen, select static text &

then click & drag the cursor on the screen to
enter the text.
To edit the font style &

size, double click on the
text click on Language
Font/New.
To enter text in multiple

lines, select Text Field
from Toolbar instead of
Static Text.
Working with the Function Keys: (Screen Selection)
Step 1: Using static text, display the assignment of the function keys.
Step 2: Right click on “Main screen” & click on “Function keys”
Step 3: Double click on screen related to function key F1

Step 4: Select the screen to be accessed by pressing key F1 & click on
OK.

Step 5: Function keys F1 & F2 are assigned to screen 1 & 2 resp.
Working with the Function Keys: (Giving Input Commands)

Step 1: For giving input command using the function key, first display the
assignment for the function key for the input variable.

Step 2: Right click on “Screen 1” under Project folder & click on “Function
keys”

Step 3: Double click in front of F1 function key under the column “Press
Var” to assign F1 key to the variable “Start”.

Step 4: Double click in front of F1 function key under the column “Press
Var” to assign F1 key to the variable “Start”.

Step 5: Link the variable “Start_PB” under Press Var & Release Var.
Data Editing using VCP:

Step 1: Using Static Text, display the variable which you want to edit using
VCP.

Step 2: To link the variable to the screen, go to toolbar & select “Variable”.
Drag the cursor on the screen in front of the text.

Step 3: Select the variable by double clicking on it and select the
representation type.

Step 4: Click on Edit type, select the options depending on the variable
type & then press Ok.
Monitoring the Status of Input/Output Variables:

Step 1: Enter the variable name on the screen using static text.

Step 2: Select the option Variable from Toolbar and drag the cursor in
front of the text displayed on the screen.

Step 3: Select the variable whose status is to be displayed and select the
representation type.

Step 4: Click on the option Edit Type and select the options required for
that particular variable type.
Creation of New Text List:
Select “Language name” /

“Language resources“ / “Text
lists”, press the right mouse button
and select “New text list”
Enter the texts that you want to displayed,

when the number in the left field is
contained in a variable
Enter max. number of characters to

which the entries in the text list will be
restricted
Select “Language name” / “Language

resources“ / “Text lists” / “New text list”,
press the right mouse button and select
“Rename”
Change name of text list from

e.g. “New text list” to “Day of
week“
Check new text list name
Using a Text List on a screen:
Select “Variable” in the “Tools” window
Position cursor at position where you want to start the

“Variable” field, press left mouse button and move the
mouse, until field has the desired size, than release mouse
button
Click onto button

“Edit type”
Select the “Selection text”
Select the PLC−Variable that you want

to display and activate it by a double
click with the left mouse button
Define the parameters of the variable to fine tune the variable display
Password Management:
For creating password, Select User

Management & enter the password depending
on the access level in the Property Window.
For giving password to a screen, go to that

particular screen & enter the access level no.
under Property Window/Password protection
For giving password to an input variable,

double click on the variable.
Enter the access

level no. for that
particular variable in
access level
column.
Compile VI-Composer Project:
Click on Compile
Compile VI-Composer Project:
Note:- If errors are found during the compilation process, no “Download” −

File will be generated. If warnings are displayed, a “Download“ − File is
generated, but it is recommended to check and correct the warnings
Upload compiled “Download” − Project file into VCP−Panel:
Click on
Download/Transmission
Enter the IP−Address of the VCP−Panel into

which you want to upload the project e.g.
192.168.1.20
Click onto the “Start” button to start

the downloading of the project
When download process is

completed, click onto the “OK” button
Control Screen Selection using PLC Variables:
Step 1: Define a variable of type word in which the particular screen

number will be passed in logic.
Step 2: Define a variable of type word to pass the particular screen no.
to the HMI. Write the logic as shown below.
Step 3: Open VI-Composer software and link the variable “Message_No”

in Supplementary Functions Polling Area Serial Message Channel
Step 4: To change to screen directly using PLC variable pass the value
16#8000 + “screen no.” to the variable “Message_No.”
Step 5: So for example when value of 16#8004 is passed to variable

“Message_No.” HMI will directly show the screen no. 4 on the display.
Display Messages on HMI using PLC Variables
Step 1: Define a variable of type Array as shown below in fig.
Step 2: In VI-Composer, go to Message system Activate Messages

and link the same variable in Start Address and specify the length of
the byte in Size.
Step 3: Write all the error messages in Message System screen with
different error codes (error nos.).
Step 4: Double click on the message line and link the screen on which
that error message has to be displayed.
Step 5: Go to the screen where the error msg. has to be displayed and
create a message field using toolbar.
Step 6: Write the logic as shown below.
Step 7: So when 1st bit of variable “Error_Messages” is activated, msg.

No. 1 i.e. Emg Stop Operated will be displayed on Main Screen of HMI .
Step 8: So, as we have declared variable “Error_Messages” of type Array

[0..8] of Byte, we can display 9*8=72 different messages on HMI screen .
