Informative Speech Audience Assessment

World Cup Speech

1Specific Goal: My audience will become more familiar with the World Cup as a player, team,
and as a spectator, how many players get selected, how many countries attend, how do they
qualify, what the cost is to attend a game, the amount of money it produces, and amount of
viewers.

My Narrowed Topic: World Cup

• Strategy: Explain a little bit about what the World Cup is, how often it
happens, and what it really means to people in the football world.
• Narrow Focus:
• Original topic: What it takes to play, coach, make the team, why,
and how.
• Narrower topic: Spectators, culture, history
• Even narrower topic : Stats in marketing, viewers, travelers,
attendees, etc.
Ethos:
• Primary Ethos: The reason why I chose this subject is because it’s related
to what I want my career/profession to be, which is to be a Professional Soccer player. I
thought it could be very beneficial for me to inform my peers about the game. I started to
play soccer at the age of 3, and now have 18 years of experience on and off the field. I
have played in multiple countries and all across the United States. I have played at some
of the highest levels and received many awards, including an “All-American” honor. I
have played for, and trained with both semi-pro, and professional teams, and am currently
playing for a semi-professional team, Ogden City SC.

• Secondary Ethos: I will cite a lot of my work from Fifa.com as they have
a very official and Professional website.

Audience Knowledge Level: The audience that I have is not very large and I am not sure if my
audience will be very familiar with my subject. I do know that Professor Haslam and a few of
my classmates are very familiar with football. They will understand the significance of the world
cup in the footballing world and what it means to the many people who watch and participate in
the FIFA World Cup.
Adaptation to Audience Knowledge: I will inform my audience of the impact that the World
Cup has on coaches, players, spectators, and all those who participate. I will also inform you
guys of the social, economic, and marketing side of the World Cup.
Pattern of Organization: I will first talk about the World Cup itself then, players, team, and
coaches. After discussing the soccer part, I will transfer to the marketing side of the World Cup.
