The intention of motcom GmbH is the development and manufacture of safety,

monitoring and measuring systems for large machinery and engines. With the
experience as developer for many years of oil mist detectors (OMD) and
systems for bearing monitoring the motcom team has created the systems
SiCOMS® / OCom (Oilmist Concentration monitoring) and BeCOMS® / BCom
(Bearing Condition monitoring) for supporting the customers in all matters
better and more flexible in the future. Together with the feedback and support
of our customers motcom GmbH will develop in future new products and
updates for the existing systems.
Our production of oilmist detectors is ATEX complied certified by DEKRA under

friction spot is registered for this bearing. Each bar represents the maximal value of friction spots in
percent to total data points registered for the bearing at a sample time interval between the two cursors

SiCOMS® / OCom
Oil mist Concentration and Splash Oil Temperature* Monitoring
motcom_products_150421_EN
The advanced motcom SiCOMS /
OCom Oil Mist Detection System is
especially designed to meet the
requirements of large diesel engines, like
ship engines or power plant engines.
The system was developed by using the
latest technical knowledge and practical
experience.

motcom_products_150421_EN
Oil Mist Formations
Oil Mist is generated when lubrication oil
comes in contact with hot surfaces.

This is one of the most significant risks for

engine operators and personal.

A lot of serious incidents are known for a

long time.

Mist concentration of 50 mg/l and higher is

sufficient for an explosion to occur.

The presence of oil mist inside the engine

can also indicate a damage of sliding
surfaces.

motcom_products_150421_EN
SiCOMS® / OCom System Overview
The system consists of the
following components:
Evaluator

Up to 16 sensors

Interface to supervisory
system

Optional: additional evaluator

The Evaluator consists of a metallic case,
a liquid crystal display (LCD), three LEDs
(Shutdown, Prealarm and System Ready),
four control keys and one reset button.

The electronics and the display of the

SiCOMS® / OCom Evaluator are installed
in a closed, shock-proofed, water, dust
and EMC resistant aluminium case,
protection class IP 67.

The Evaluator can be mounted close to

the engine or in the engine control room.
The Evaluator operates reliably at
temperatures between 0°C to 70°C and at
relative humidity up to 80%.

motcom_products_150421_EN
The SiCOMS/OCom sensors are
interconnected via two
redundant serial bus interfaces.
If necessary, a sensor can be
easily dismounted, for example
for cleaning, while the engine
is running without affecting the
system’s functionality.

SiCOMS/OCom does not have

any moveable mechanical parts
and hence does not undergo
any wear and tear.
