Schematic model of the crankshaft with friction spots indicator. Blue lines show big end bearings, green
lines correspond to main bearings. If relative thermo signal value in percent of DC alarm level in polar
data at a selected time point reaches or exceeds 100%, the bearing is displayed as a red line, and a
friction spot is registered for this bearing. Each bar represents the maximal value of friction spots in
percent to total data points registered for the bearing at a sample time interval between the two cursors
at the linear diagram.

SiCOMS® / OCom
Oil mist Concentration and Splash Oil Temperature* Monitoring
motcom_products_150421_EN
The advanced motcom SiCOMS /
OCom Oil Mist Detection System is
especially designed to meet the
requirements of large diesel engines, like
ship engines or power plant engines.
The system was developed by using the
latest technical knowledge and practical
experience.
motcom_products_150421_EN
Oil Mist Formations
Oil Mist is generated when lubrication oil
comes in contact with hot surfaces.

interconnected via two
redundant serial bus interfaces.
If necessary, a sensor can be
easily dismounted, for example
for cleaning, while the engine
is running without affecting the
system’s functionality.

ATEX (Explosion Proof) Certification
Explosion protection for class 1 specified environment such as
engine crankcase, as currently discussed for gas and dual
fuel engines
Certification IEC 60079-11 requires
1. Low power (< 2 mWs) electrical measurement circuits
2. intrinsically safe electric circuits
=> Impossibility of ignition of fuel gas/oil mist
mixture under any unfortunate condition
3. Measurement inside the crankcase
4. No heating device inside the sensor!
