Dear Friend,
Warm Christian greetings to you on this beautiful day. I trust you
are looking to Jesus, “…the author and finisher of our faith.” No
matter what we face, with Jesus Christ in our lives we can be more than conquerors
through Him who loves us! And He proved His love for us when He died on the cross
for our sins. We are liberated from the power of sin through Christ, but though we are
liberated to do what we will, our freedom in Christ came by a great cost.
When the Apostle Paul wrote the epistle to the Hebrews, there must have been
some sort of offence in chapter 12 because He told them to “…consider Him that
endured…” That’s a word we don’t hear too often any more! We don’t have patience
for anything! If we’re not “happy” we just get up and go. Yet we find ourselves weary
and coming short of the men and women the Lord would have us to be. Some Christians
remind me of children who don’t get their way. They get mad at the world, their
ministers, their church and storm out; sure to tell everyone they meet what a terrible
place the House of God is! Oh, but it is a place of blessings for those who open their
hearts and look to Jesus! I have been blessed and prospered and forgiven so many times
at the church I can’t count that high! The Lord has strengthened me there time and time
again when I have been weary and struggling. He feeds me with His Word and leads me
beside the still waters and restores my soul! So what if I have to make a few adjustments
and changes. It’s His church, after all! He is the head of it. I just thank God He has
allowed me to be a member of His body!
Our world has become too self-centered. The Bible teaches us to esteem others
better than ourselves. No wonder we have devalued everything that comes our way.
“Self” affects everything we come in contact with. “Self” taints every relationship,
every job and every church in America. Some are even so bold as to say the Lord has
left some assemblies because the attendance is down a little and judgment has fallen.
But I read where Jesus spoke to some disciples and apparently they didn’t like what He
said because 70 walked away! Does that mean He wasn’t too spiritual? Does that mean
God’s judgment fell on Him? He went from 82 disciples to 12, including Judas. 88% of
His “church” left because He said, “It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh
profiteth nothing: the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are
life” (John 6:63). Wow! Could it be they didn’t like the Holy Spirit? Their flesh was
pricked and they went back and walked no more with Him. I guess flesh is still flesh,
eh? People are still doing it today.
But Jesus endured and held true to who He was and why He was there. A dear
pastor friend told me several years ago not to pay so much attention to those who are
disgruntled and leave, but concentrate on those who God is calling and speaking to.
Reach out to the lost of this world and keep sowing good things. He knows exactly
where you are! He told Paul He has much people in the city, so keep preaching the
Word! Faith in God is the answer for this troubled world. I like to use my faith to build
up the church. If there is a problem, it’s not time to leave: it’s time to seek the Lord and
build up the church, the ministry, the ministers, and to uphold the vision of that
assembly. I’m not in the church for only when people pat me on the back. I’m there
when there’s a problem. Maybe the pastor needs you to stand with them in prayer.
Maybe there’s an assault on the assembly from the enemy that’s trying to prevail against
the church. Will you stand in the storm or become a part of the problem? A child will
run and blame others for why they’re not happy. A parent will stand and face the
problem and tackled the issues through prayer, perseverance and determination to make
things work. Where are you in that scenario? Are you carrying someone else’s grudges?
Are you listening to those who complain? Do you take sides in a disagreement that has
nothing to do with you? “…consider Him who endured…” Follow the example of our
Lord Jesus Christ who gave Himself for the church and loved the church.
If you have a church, love it, pray for it and support it and serve the Lord with
gladness there. If you don’t have a church I invite you to ours. We are the Full Gospel
Lighthouse Church, located at 624 Torringford West Street in Torrington, CT. Our
