Equipment And Tag Numbering Procedure Revision: 1.0
1 INTRODUCTION
This procedure defines the equipment and tag numbering systems to be followed by MDC Oil
& Gas (SK320) Limited - Malaysia. The purpose of the procedure is to ensure that all
equipment and identifiable components are systematically numbered and to allow systematic
registration and traceability.
2 DEFINITIONS
COMPANY MDC Oil & Gas (SK320) Limitied, a Mubadala Petroleum Affiliate
This numbering procedure is to be imposed on all facilities in a logical manner to permit the
identification of all equipment items and tagged components.
4 RESPONSIBILITIES
The revision and reissue of this procedure is the responsibility of COMPANY. Any request to
expand any of the tables of identifiers shall be routed to COMPANY. New identifiers shall be
used only when approved by COMPANY.
The Contractor primarily responsible for the work on each facility shall maintain an equipment
and tag register and allocate equipment and tag numbers both internally and to sub-
contractors as required.

7 INSTRUMENTATION IDENTIFICATION
7.1 General
Instruments and instrument system shall be numbered in accordance with the ISA Standard
S5.1.
Note: The instrument function identification indicated in Table 1 – Identification Letters shall
be used. Full S5.1, Function Identification, shall be used for index / schedule purposes.
However, for P&ID purpose, a shortened form of tagging shall be adopted to limit congestion
and improve readability. Format of the shortened tags shall be explained as part of the P&ID
legend sheets.
Each instrument in the project shall be assigned a unique instrument tag number. The
instrument tag number shall contain the following attributes:
(C) A single digit letter suffix, commencing with A and allocated in sequence
where more than one instrument is used in the same service.
The function identifier for an instrument shall consist of up to 6 letters as listed in the ISA
Standard S5.1 and shall include a first letter covering the measured or initiating variable, and
one or more succeeding letters covering the functions of the individual instrument.
The function identifier shall be selected according to the function and not the type of
instrument. For example, level transmitter shall be designated LT and not under the type
which may be PDT (pressure differential transmitter).
This distinction may have to be made again when selecting a function identifier which must be
according to the measured or initiating variable and not according to the manipulated variable.
For example, a control valve varying flow on the command of a level controller is an LV not an
FV.
Document No.:
MDC Oil & Gas (SK 320) Limited
MPMY-PM-PRC-0002
Equipment And Tag Numbering Procedure Revision: 1.0
The succeeding letters of the function identifier designate one or more readout or passive
functions or output functions.
The function identifier may require the addition of a modifying letter; this may be added to the
first letter or succeeding letters as required.
The number of function identifier letters should be kept to a minimum and shall not exceed six
for one instrument.
The loop identifier shall be the sequential number assigned to the loop of which the
instrument is a part.
Loop numbers shall be unique and shall follow the same format as the instrument numbers.
If a given loop has more than one instrument with the same function identifier, then a suffix
shall be appended to the loop identifier for the instrument, e.g. PV-1506A and PV-1506B.
X(D) Process Variable as detailed in the table below with the suffix D added for
differential measuring instruments.
MMNN(C) The system number and loop identifier from the instrument tag number
See Section 7.2.

3. A marshalling cabinet for the PAGA B system located on M5 wellhead platform A will
be numbered M5WA-MC-RPB-202.
(C) A single digit letter suffix, commencing with A and allocated in sequence
where more than one instrument is used in the same service.
Each device shall be identified by three letters for functional classification (Refer Appendix 8).
The first digit will be ‘R’ the telecommunications primary equipment identifier, the second digit
will identify the equipment type as detailed within Section 5.4, whilst the third digit indicates
the system as outlines below:
The loop identifier shall comprise the system code (86), as detailed within Section 5.5,
followed by a two digit numeric identifier allocated in sequence utilising the next available
number.
