Name of Article: Focusing elementary students with classrooms: exploring teachers’ perceptions
of self-initiated practices
Author: Christine A. Foran, Cynthia Mannion, Gayle Rutherford
Journal Name: International Electronic Journal of Elementary Education
Date: September 2017

The main task of Foran, Mannion, and Rutherford’s article “Focusing elementary

students with classrooms: exploring teachers’ perceptions of self-initiated practices” is to discuss

the different perceptions of teachers with the use of physical activities in their classrooms.

Studies show that students who are involved in physical activities have higher test/exam results.

Many teachers believe that physical activities can enhance their students’ focus in classroom

activities. However, some teachers have trouble balancing this with the rest of the school

curriculum. Yet, this encourages teachers to have a more physically active lifestyle. Courses are

being offered to help teachers being exposed to all the physical activities that can be

implemented into their classrooms.

Performance in a Multimedia Environment
Author: Guillerima Viruet Cruz
Year: 2018

Cruz’s purpose of the article “Influence of Self-Assessment Scripts on Self-Regulated

Learning and Students’ Performance in a Multimedia Environment” is to examine the differences
between self-regulated learning skills and learning in a multimedia environment, While having
students be able to create a conceptual map. Many studies show that multimedia learning is more
effective to students than text-only learning. This study uses 87 secondary school students
enrolled in the 11th and 12th grade English courses. Control in treatment groups were created to
determine the result of the experiment (which showed no differences in both learning groups).
Because of this, a change has sparked inviting teachers, students, and multimedia outlets to
reassess themselves to enhance academic performances.
