EQUIPMENT AND APPARATUS

A. List of Equipment and Apparatus and its Uses

Apparatus Use or Function Type

1. Water and chalk They were mixed together to form a slurry. The Major

mixture is the one under study.

2. Mortar and Pestle A mortar is a vessel in which substances are grinded Minor

or crushed with a pestle. A pestle is a tool used to

crush, mash or grind materials in a mortar.

They were used to grind/pulverize the chalk.

3. Sedimentation Study A self-contained bench mounting apparatus for Major

Apparatus studies into the settling characteristics of suspended

solids and the display of wall effects.

4. Digital Balance The digital mass balances in the laboratory are very Major

sensitive instruments used for weighing substances

to the milligram level.

It was used to weigh the chalk in the experiment.

5. 2 1000 ml beaker A beaker is a common container in most labs. It is Minor

used for mixing, stirring, and heating chemicals. Most

beakers have spouts on their rims to aid in pouring..

It was used as a container in the mixing of chalk and

water.

6. Stirring rod It is a piece of glass rod primarily used for stirring Minor

mixtures in the laboratory.

It was used to stir the mixture of chalk and water.

7. 100 ml graduated This is a primary measuring tool for the volume of a Minor

cylinder liquid. There are several markings up and down the

length of the container with specific increments.

It was used to measure the volume of water used.
