To Whom It May Concern:
I am excited to learn about the new District Literacy Lead Teacher positions offered for the
2018-19 school year. I believe that I would be a fantastic candidate for this leadership role in our
county. My personal beliefs match the vision and mission of WCPS, and I am passionate about
teaching and building a community of readers. My daily Reading Workshop lessons follow the model
taught last summer which includes many components and layers of reading to support the needs of
our emergent readers.
To further support my dedication of a well balanced model, I attended the June 3rd, professional
learning opportunity with Jan Bukins, co-author of W ho's Doing the Work? This furthered my
knowledge of the gradual release process, and allowed me the time to reflect on my own teaching
practices and make meaningful adjustments.
In addition to educating grade 1 students at Emma K. Doub Elementary School, I have
experience teaching adult learners at Frostburg State University, USMH. In the Spring of 2018, I
rewrote and taught the Science Methodology Course focused on the 5E model for Integrated Science
Instruction. I am currently rewriting a second class, focusing on Reading Assessment and using the
text, H
ow to Plan Differentiated Reading Instruction by Sharon Walpole and Michael C. McKenna.
This text gives a plethora of vetted resources to assess reading and drive instruction. This is a work in
progress, but I am confident it will provide my adult students with the information they need to start
teaching guided reading correctly and effectively.
Among peers, I strive to be leader in our school environment. I am a member of the SIT Team,
and I recently attended the Leadership Council with other leaders from EKD. This was a great
opportunity to develop a plan of growth by drilling down to areas of weakness in our building.
Together we openly discussed what changes need to be made to move our students forward and
creatively utilize every minute of the instructional day.
I believe that have an approachable personality, and I enjoy teaching to better those around me,
whether a 7 year old learner or a 37 year old learner. On my resume, I have included personal and
professional references, including a former student who can most directly speak to my ability to teach
others. I am excited to begin the next school year with a fresh plan for Reading Workshop by
implementing best practices and continuous formative assessment. Thank you for taking the time
consider me for this new position, I look forward to discussing this potential opportunity with you
soon!
Together in Education,
