ASSIMENT 01

A 3 phase, semi bridge converter is operating on 400 V, 50 Hz, 3 phase AC source having an
internal impedance of RS = 0.5Ω/ phase and LS = 3mH/ phase. The load is inductive with an
equivalent impedance amounting to RL = 15Ω and load inductance LL= 4OmH.

Assume diodes and thyristors in the converter is ideal.

Simulate the converter in MATLAB and give the waveforms of

I. Output voltage,VO
II. Output current, IO
III. Input current (Phase A only),IA
IV. Voltage across thyristor T1
V. Voltage across diode D2

For the following values of α

I.α = 0
II.α = 450
III.α = 1150

In each case give the values of ( VO) mean, (IO) mean , (IA) Fud, rms and input displacement angel.
Answers

PART I
I.As the 1st step the semi bridge converter bridge circuit was built using power electronics blocks,
power systems blocks and several other required blocks in MATLAB Simulink module.

II.Then all the parameters were selected for each block (Load, power source, switching devices,
etc.) as given in the Assignment and scopes, Mean, RMS and display blocks were add to the
circuit to obtained required waveforms and measurements.

III.Then power gui module was introduced (for continuous operation) to the circuit and ideal
switching devices option and other required parameter disable options were selected.

IV. The firing angles in pulse generators were selected for three thyristors as follows,

 Firing angle for Thyristor 1 = α +300

 Firing angle for Thyristor 2 = α + 1500
 Firing angle for Thyristor 3 = α + 2700

T3 150 1/120 T3 195 13/1200
T5 270 3/200 T5 315 7/400
