Additional Operating Information

Defrost Control

ARA133
1 2 ARA134
Zone 1 and Zone 2 are defrosted through separate controls.
Defrost cycles may be initiated automatically through timer
control or manually by pressing the Zone 1 or Zone 2
DEFROST key. During defrost cycles, the Defrost symbol
appears on the related screen display.

Once a defrost cycle is initiated, the cycle is controlled auto-

matically. The defrost cycle is terminated when the evapora-
tor coil temperature reaches the defrost termination switch
point. Following a defrost cycle, the unit returns to normal
operation.

ARA085 NOTE: At the end of a defrost cycle, if the control air tem-
perature exceeds the setpoint by 5.1 F (2.8 C) or more, the
unit runs in low speed cool for 2 minutes before switching
to high speed cool.

NOTE: If the defrost cycle time exceeds its programmed

limit (factory set at 45 minutes), the defrost cycle is
stopped by the thermostat.

Sensor Failure
In addition to generating an alarm, the failure of a sensor
will cause the display for that sensor to show a minus sign
ARA096 and dashes in place of temperature. The alarm symbol, the
minus sign and the dashes will blink continuously.

Temperatures Outside of Display Range

The Multi-Temp In-Cab TG-V Controller is capable of dis-
playing temperatures ranging from -40.0 to 99.0 F (-40.0 to
37.2 C). A blinking temperature display of -40.0 or 99.0 F
(-40.0 or 37.2 C) without an alarm symbol indicates the unit
is functioning normally but the temperature being sensed is
outside of the display range of the controller.

Example: If the temperature in the cargo compartment

were 110 F, the display would read 99.0 F and would blink
continuously. The display would stop blinking once the
ARA097 temperature dropped below 99.0 F.

Displaying and Clearing Alarm

Codes
When the Multi-Temp In-Cab TG-V Controller senses an
alarm condition, the flashing alarm symbol appears on the
display.

ARA077 1. To display the alarm code, press and release the Select
key once and the alarm display will appear on the
Zone 1 display. A two-digit alarm code is used to iden-
tify the type of alarm.
ARA059

• If more than one alarm has been sensed, all alarm

codes present will automatically alternate on the
screen.

• Refer to “Alarm Codes” on page 18 for

information about the various alarm codes.

ARA079 2. To clear the alarms, press the ENTER key while the
alarm symbol is showing on the screen. The alarms will
clear and the standard display will appear on the screen.
ARA062 • Alarms may continue to appear as the unit operates
if the alarm condition is not corrected.

Guarded Access Mode

The Multi-Temp In-Cab TG-V Controller is pre-pro-
grammed to match the standard configuration and operating
requirements of the Thermo King unit.

If the controller has been factory installed in the unit, stan-

dard programming, for best operation, was entered at the
factory and no further programming should be needed.

If the controller is being field installed, then the program-

ming setup codes must be set to match the configuration of
the unit into which it is being installed.

The factory setup codes are found on the wiring and sche-
matic diagrams of the unit. Special changes in programming
can also be done, if needed, for specific applications.

Programming
Programming is done through the protected “Guarded
Access Mode”.

The Guarded Access Mode consists of six displays num-

bered 0, 2, 8, :0, :5, and :8. Display numbers are indicated
by a half size digit.

NOTE: Because of internal restrictions, the half size digit

ARA149 is unable to display 1, 3, 4, or 6. Therefore, a colon is used
as an added descriptor, which leads to the odd sequence of
symbols for the displays.

The controller is programmed by entering a two-digit setup

code into each display.

27
(Rev. 07/05)

Guarded Access Mode - continued

Programming the controller requires the following:

• Choose the desired setup code for each display.

• Enter the Guarded Access Mode.

• Change the setup codes as required.

NOTE: Zone 1 and Zone 2 defrost codes are setup sepa-

rately. All other codes setup both unit controls.

Choosing Setup Codes

Each two-digit setup code can represent several operational
settings of the controller.

The setup codes are found on the wiring and schematic dia-
grams of the unit.

If not available on the wiring and schematic diagrams, the

setup codes can be determined by using the information
shown later in this section.

codes:

the correct two-digit code appears.

2. To enter the new setup code into memory:

Press and release the ENTER key within 5 seconds.

pressing and releasing the SELECT key within 5
seconds of entering the new code. To change the
setup code on other displays, repeat steps 1 and 2.
ARA062
CAUTION: If the ENTER key is not pressed within 5
seconds: the original setup code display will appear
on the screen for 5 seconds, the standard display will
automatically appear, and the controller will operate
with the original setup code for that display.

NOTE: Remember to return the controller to the orig-

inal setpoint when programming is finished.

Defrost intervals for Zone 2 are set with Display :8. A
defrost interval is the period of time between the end of one
defrost cycle and the beginning of the next.

During pull-down, the defrost interval is 4 hours. Once the

unit is in-range, the defrost interval becomes the interval set
with this display.

Defrost Time Interval Above Lockout - Zone 2

Sets the defrost interval for setpoint temperatures above
15 F (-9.4 C).

Settings:
1, 2, 4, 6, 8,10,12,14 or 16 hours

Defrost Time Interval Below Lockout - Zone 2

Sets the defrost interval for setpoint temperatures below
15 F (-9.4 C).

Settings:
1, 2, 4, 6, 8,10,12,14 or 16 hours

NOTE: The one-hour defrost interval is only available in

the updated versions of the controller. The one-hour

SENSOR TEST
1. Visually check the bulb end, lead, and terminal end of
the sensor. Make sure that it is not damaged.

2. Using an ohmmeter capable of reading at least 4000

ohms, check the resistance between the sensor lead ter-
minals.

3. Sensor resistance should be approximately 3000 to

3500 ohms. Use the following method to give the sen-
sor a more accurate test:

a. Cool the sensor down to 32.0 F (0.0 C) and check

the resistance. The reading should be 3266 ± 3.4
ohms.

b. Warm the sensor up to 70.0 F (21.1 C) and check

the resistance. The reading should be 3450 ± 6.9
ohms.

4. If the sensor does not meet specifications, replace it.
