French B Regions Project

Overview; notes table; scoring rubric

Une région en France

Objective: Students will explore a French region and create a Google presentation
based on their research that demonstrates their understanding of the distinctive
qualities of that region.

The presentation should leave viewers wanting to go there, knowing what time of
year they might want to travel, and knowing what they would see and do there.

Think of this as creating a travel brochure, commercial, or visitor’s guide that would
be used for an advertisement about the region. You can use persuasive language
and highlight the best parts of the area.

Before you begin:

● Make a copy of this document
● “Organize” the copy into your French Folder.
● Title it: “Your name:(Name of Region) Project.”
● Complete the “notes” section below.
● When you have completed your presentation, put it into your French folder AND link it
HERE.

Background information on French

Regions
France is divided into 22 administrative regions
or provinces. Each region has its own culture
and traditions which are influenced by their
location in the country and their history.

For this project, you will select one region and

show your understanding of the physical
features and the culture of these regions.

By physical features, I mean their location, their

climate and landscape, and any major rivers, mountains, oceans or the like that you will find
there. By culture, I mean the history, festivals, cooking, dress, art, traditions and other aspects
of the region that shape how people there live. You must know the capital city or cities, too.

TAKING NOTES:
● As you research your province, write notes on the key ideas you will include in your presentation.
Write notes in the table below, right in the box with the prompt. You can add more rows if
necessary.
● These notes are REQUIRED. You may not begin creating your presentation until you have taken
notes. You will be graded on your notes.
● No copy/pasting from your sources, even for your notes. Re-write key ideas in your own words in
bullet form.
HOW TO DO RESEARCH:
● Do NOT just pick the first few bits of information you read about. Do some real research!
● Read at least 2 full excerpts on your region.
● Compare articles to help you determine the most important information.
● Do any additional research needed to fill in gaps based on the NOTES table.
● Do not plagiarize! You may not just copy/paste sentences from your articles; you need to
rewrite the information in your own words. Write in bullet points for your notes.
● Remember, you may need to use 3 or 4 additional sources before you find a useful one.

REQUIRED ELEMENTS FOR PRESENTATION (see also notes table below)

● A title page that states your name, the name of your region in French and English, and
your hook/slogan.
● Your hook or slogan should be something catchy about why someone would want to
visit. You will want to come up with your slogan AFTER you have researched your region
and know what’s “best” about it.
● You also need to have pages on:
○ weather/climate;
○ food;
○ physical features, and relative location;
○ principal city/cities
○ several pages of main attractions;
○ historic events, festivals, traditions, clothing or another reason to visit;
○ a concluding page;
○ a bibliography
● You also must have photos on every, or nearly every page to show what you are writing
about.
● You must have a map of France by region that highlights your region. If your region is
not with France’s borders, you need a map that helps your classmates identify where in
the world it is as well as one of the island itself.
● Your presentation must be of excellent quality without typos or spelling errors. Make it
visually appealing. Include pictures and big font (sometimes less is more, don’t get too
busy.) Make sure that it is organized in a logical way. It does not have to go in the order
of the table if that is not the most logical way for your presentation. Add details that make
it engaging, but don’t include random, unimportant facts. Your presentation should
answer this question: Why would I want to visit that place?
Write your notes in this table:
