Ok, got a test light or volt meter?

Customer reply

i have both

MOPAR CERTIFIED , Dodge Technician

Ok, can you locate the solenoid pack on front of the trans and undo
the electrical connector.......needs a 8mm or 5/16socket to undo it.

Then with the engine running, can you check the yellow/orange
wire for 12 volts.

Customer reply

sorry to leave you hanging. something came up and i had to stop what i
was doing. we can continue if you want to I checked the yellow orange
wire with the engine running there is no voltage there.

MOPAR CERTIFIED , Dodge Technician

Ok, so that tells me either the relay isn't being turned on, or fuse 15
is blown.......or there is a wiring problem.

Can you recheck fuse 15 for me and tell me the voltage with the
engine running?

Customer reply
I don't know wich one is fuse 15 but i checked them all and switched
them around with other fuses with the same rating and i moved all the
relays around again and there is still no voltage to any wires on that
connector.

MOPAR CERTIFIED , Dodge Technician

Ok, can you pull the relay out, turn it over and look at the base of
the pins. Each pin is numbered on the base of the relay.

Turn the relay back over and note where each pin goes.

Test the corresponding terminal in the fuse box for pin

30..........need to see 12 volts all the time.

If you have 12 volts there..........install a temporary jumper wire

between 30 and 87 and then recheck for voltage down at the
solenoid pack.

Let me know what you get.

Customer reply

I don't know whitch relay you are talking about. I pulled one out and
checked the numbers. I know what you are talking about but i don't
know whitch relay i am checking. there isn't one marked transmission

The inside of the lid should have things labelled for you.........but
here is a pic I found.

1 - TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY

2 - LEFT FENDER
3 - INTELLIGENT POWER MODULE (IPM)
4 - BATTERY

OK that relay is marked eatx safety shutdown. I did what you said there
is no power at pin 30 but there is constant power at pin 87. so I installed
a jumper and now there is 12 volts at the at the yellow orange wire.

Good.

The EATX is the abbreviation for the electronic transmission so you

have the right one. You have the numbers reversed as #30 will have
constant power, but that is OK, because we proved the fuse is good
and the wiring is good from the relay down to the solenoid pack.

The TCM, or transmission computer, is responsible for turning this

relay on. Once it turns the relay on, it will send power to the
solenoid pack and then back to itself on different wires.

So, it appears the TCM is not turning this relay on and we will need
to check the powers and grounds to the TCM.

The TCM is located in front of the left front wheel in behind the
splash shield. You'll need to gain access to the module and have a
look at the wiring to make sure it isn't damaged or corroded.

I don't suppose you've been in an accident on that corner have

you?............seen a few failures due to accidents.

It's getting late in my neck of the woods so I'll pick this up in the
am and that will give you a chance to gain access to the TCM.

Alright?? Welcome! What's going on with your Dodge?

Here's the pinout for the TCM wire connector.

1
Welcome! What's going on with your Dodge?
Customer reply

OK I did that and i have 12 volts

MOPAR CERTIFIED , Dodge Technician

Good thanks.

Well, it is looking like the TCM is going to be your problem then.

If you wanted to check the wiring a bit more, you can use a jumper
wire to apply 12 volts directly to pin 15, and this should turn the
relay on and give you power on 16 and 17 as well as the wire you
checked earlier at the solenoid pack.

Customer reply

OK I ran the jumper from 56 to 15 but I don't have any power at 16, 17
or the solenoid pack. I double and tripple checked to make sure
everything is right but there isn't any power.

1
Welcome! What's going on with your Dodge?
MOPAR CERTIFIED , Dodge Technician

Ok, and when you check the power earlier on 56, you used 57 for
your ground?

Just trying to see if there is a ground connection on 57.

If 57 is a good ground, then you will need to follow the wiring for 56
from the TCM to the relay.

If it helps, I'll include a diagram.....

1
Welcome! What's going on with your Dodge?
Customer reply

To answer your question yes I did use 57 for ground and it was good.
what am I looking for when follow 56 to the relay?

MOPAR CERTIFIED , Dodge Technician

Sorry, that was a typo......should have been 15.

15 is the wire that needs to turn the relay on, and when you jumped
power to it the relay didn't turn on.......so we need to trace the
wire.........or use an ohm meter from the relay to the TCM plug to see if
there is continuity.

Customer reply

I think I just found the problem. I rocked the fuse box up on its side and
there has been a critter living under there chewing on the wires. some
are in pretty bad shape. The 15 wire where it comes out of the TCM is
yellow & brown. There is a yellow& brown wire going into the bottom of
the fuse box. I assume it is the same one. It has been chewed but there
is still 12 volts at the bare spot. Looks like its splicing time.

Nice Job!!

Customer reply

Thanks a lot for your help. You are the man. I think I got it from here.
Have a good one.
