Learning to play well, be with other kids. My child was not in Head Start until this year. In a rural area, not all
children qualify or get into Head Start or Pre K. My first child/boy didn’t so playgroup gives my kids a chance to
“get off the ranch” and see other community kids they usually don’t during the week or month
It’s great for the kids and parents to have a weekly meeting place

7
In your opinion, how could this playgroup be improved?
Arcata D Street
Small arts and crafts corner
Doubles and triples of highly preferred toys. More toys-creative play. more staff
None, it’s great
More days
This is my favorite playgroup so I can’t think of anything. Maybe some snacks for young babies
I believe this playgroup is well-rounded, safe atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, great for gaining
communication, learning and social skills
More males maybe
I’m fine with the way it is

Like the songs and circle at the end. Lauren does a great job getting to know the kids
Stranger coming in and collecting data…making observations of the children
It’s great!
Music playing in the background would be nice
More seating for snack area
[One staff member] has repeatedly interacted in ways that were too familiar, inappropriate, unprofessional, and off
putting. I think she means well, but she consistently crosses the boundaries of normal social behavior
It’s perfect! Maybe another table for snacks and raises for staff because they do good work! Incentivize them to
stay forever! They should at least get the pay of a sergeant in Army
Bigger room
It’s great
More outside activity
Increased salary for staff. Sanitation days- more [unknown word] cleaning. Maybe another tale/chairs for projects.
Music-bring back Jose!
Excellent the way it is
More learning toys. Stacking flowers, finger paints, wooden trains, baby toys/clothes [?] organized, one more high
chair, more baby dolls
Fortuna
A Facebook page to show cancellations

Random closures without notice-show up and not open. Would be great if could know in advance
Text alerts notifying parents when playgroup has been canceled
Longer song circle at the end
Bring back the bikes
Coffee
I can’t think of anything
More music. Snack could be more nutritious
A small designated area for trikes and small bikes. More carpeted areas
Adorni Center needs to put dates playgroup will be cancelled on a calendar ahead of time so parents don’t show
up day of and it’s canceled
More toys for 3-5 year olds
Excellent as is
Offer more fresh produce during snack time
I believe playgroup has helped my rather introverted child blossom and become more confident around her peers
I’ve heard it might be moved-hope to stay at Adorni Center
9
While there are many independent play activities, it may help to facilitate group play activity in a section or two.
Also, it would be good to facilitate basic learning of key values or virtues such as focusing on words like “helping”,
“sharing,” “caring,” etc.
Assortment of snacks, real coffee for adults More tables to serve children when feeding them
Making it more cozy for parents
Maybe making coffee/tea more available to parents would make it more cozy

gifted with kids
We love the guests
McKinleyville Playgroup
More whole group activity
Consistent healthy organic snacks
Great as is
I love it as is!
Maybe if parents could intervene less on children’s conflicts and let the kids work it out? A few times I haven’t
liked the discipline other parents have tried to apply to my child when I deemed it unnecessary (no one was being
harmed, etc)
Storytime maybe?
More staff
Variety in snacks-more fresh fruit/veg options
Orleans
I haven’t really been enough to think of
Outdoor play space/structure
Southern Humboldt
Miranda
Better crafts, include kids in making snack
Janitor could sweep hallways and clean bathrooms
Redway
Its own room again-more floor space, more song time
I think it’s great already
Possibly add more music to the group
If it had its own room, not shared with other children
Shelter Cove
We could [use] a better sink to help with clean up
Tiny Tots
More, bigger space
Another day a week!
Stay small-not get too busy
Its tops!
Letting other moms introduce themselves
By having different hours for big kids (2-4 yo) and small kids (1-2 yo)
Being held more often!
7. What, if any, concerns have you had/do you have about bringing your child to this playgroup? What has helped
or would help with these concerns?
Arcata
We got sick a lot during the winter while coming. Postings to remind families to be conscientious were helpful
The reason it took me so long to come was I didn’t know it was such a great space
11
Getting sick, contracting illness which is a concern in any school setting
No concerns
Catching colds/sickness. I just hand sanitize and wash. I appreciate the hand sanitizer brand
Exposure to sickness, hand sanitizers breed more resistant microbes so it’s good they ask to keep sick kids home
It used to get very crowded because it is such a great place to bring the kids
This group tends to be a little chaotic
Nothing really besides picking up a cold
Getting sick in winter
Sometimes colds but everyone does their best
Blue Lake
Catching a cold//Getting hurt by other kids. Washing hands and group policy. Inevitable learning to play with
others
Other parents turn this into social hour and let their children run about and bully younger children

Wish the park was fully enclosed b/c my little guy is so quick
One unfriendly older boy being mean to younger kids. Haven’t seen him recently
Certain parents are not watching their children with aggressive and unkind behavior
Other parents not paying attention to their own child’s problem behaviors that are aggressive at times
None. It’s a perfect group with outdoor setting and playground
Maybe a coloring section set up
Sometimes it’s cold inside
Discovery Museum
Busy. Come early
All my concerns have been addressed by your proactive staff in a timely professional manner
Safety-getting hurt , my kid did-she tripped on a rug and banged her check on the corner of a crate
Too many kids
Too many people
It’s hot in here!
Spreadable flus, hand foot and mouth
Since the venue is designed for older children, there are more things for 4-5 yrs old, rather than 0-2
He was a little young when we first started coming. Now that he is t2, I think he will benefit and learn more here
Child not willing to share. The understanding of staff and parents.
It can get very busy
Unvaccinated and undisciplined pot grower children. Prop 64 will flush a few out hopefully.
No tengo preocupaciones. Mis hijas están seguras. // I have no concern. My daughters are safe.

Blue Lake
The librarian Kim is amazing. She always has the patience to help my kids. Also helpful finding parenting books
McKinleyville library has reduced services
Me and boy have yet to go to library. I forget they exist. I’m sad about this. Putting it in my schedule now
19
Blue Lake library is a priceless resource for community building. Lifelong education and a fun place for everyone.
All in less than 200 sq. ft.
Thanks! We love library time!
Library staff are very patient with the kids. We feel welcome at the ones we go to: Arcata, McK, Eureka
I don’t like all the homeless that hang around outside and hanging out in the playgrounds. Security would be nice.
I stopped going to Eureka because of it
Discovery Museum
The park outside is full of transients, needles, condoms. We won’t play there
Awesome!
Our house is full of books which are constantly upgraded and replaced
The homeless have made the Eureka library unusable for families
Thank you for having a restroom in the children’s area and keeping it for kids only!
Library playground is very dirty, not kept up and even cleaning workers have told me too look out for syringes?!?!
library playground draws child in and is unsafe to play
Have not yet taken my son to the library but have been at play group when library guest reader is present and
enjoyed
No he ido a la biblioteca// I have not visited to the library.
Fortuna Playgroup
I am not aware of children's services or activities for young children at the library
FUN
We enjoy library story time
The library playground gets too filthy from homeless/drug abusers. I have found human feces there and used
needles in the playground ship. Very sad. The children’s area inside the library is very nice
Love library!
The theme story times are a great program for youngsters
Don’t feel safe
It’s so hard to go to the library with a toddler!
I didn’t realize all the parenting information available until I went for a sign language event
Loleta Playgroup-
Would love to see more children’s services/activities at Ferndale library! We like the Eureka library but it’s too far
for us and we don’t always feel safe in the parking lot there
There are a lot of good resources in the community that occur during working hours. My husband and I work full
time so we are not able to attend on a regular basis
Manila Playgroup
Our library has a lot of homeless drug addicts
[Don’t go to story time and don’t find library family friendly] because of the homeless/drug addicts leaving
dangerous garbage @ library
The library is great inside. The playground at the library is a hazard. Drug users and homeless defecate and leave
used needles in the playground. My children want to play in there but I can no longer allow it. A friend’s child
found a switchblade in the playground there last week. It needs better security and sanitation
Haven’t been yet. Just moved to Humboldt a few months ago

He is not at the age to sit still for long periods-only will sit for 1 book. I haven’t seen too much information available
at the local library [about children’s services/activities/materials]
Mattole Playgroup
We love the bookmobile
We love and rely on the bookmobile. It is a critically important library and service to us as we live 1+ hours drive
from any actual library. We wish the bookmobile could come more often and stay longer. It seriously enriches our
lives.
McKinleyville
It was difficult and somewhat stressful taking my 2.5 year old to the McK library. There was one worker and it took
15-20 minutes to get a book we needed help finding. I wish the kids area was more enclosed so the kids wouldn’t
try and run around
It’s hard to get information of library
I wish the McKinleyville branch was improved. It substantially lacks in size and capacity compared to Eureka. it
can easily be overcrowded and my kids get discouraged to go unless it is easy enough to avoid older kids
Orleans
Bookmobile is great. My family uses it often. Eureka is too far to go. My wife and I highly value education (PhD,
master’s for both) so we go to different libraries when we can with our kids. Reading, book activities are helpful for
my children’s learning.
As a grandfather I look at books with grandchild most times.
Southern Humboldt
Miranda
Library in town is closed so much! I have a hard time scheduling library times because of this
Redway
Because it’s the only internet in Garberville, there are more than often homeless in there. That makes it
uncomfortable
The one in Garberville needs more space away from the homeless [comment placed next to “family
friendly” question]
Shelter Cove
Cynthia is a great resource and I will be connecting with her to bring in story time to SC
Tiny Tots
More movies, we love all about our libraries

Our library needs reg story times and more things like on coast. Rural areas are desperate for children’s
programs. Library is small, needs updating and cleaning.
Our library is in need of repair
If I can’t find something, Elizabeth is so helpful tracking it down!
Great selection. Miss Elizabeth @WC library can always order particular books if needed

Keep up the good work
Please reinstate KEET/Ready to Learn
So very impressed w/Molly and this playgroup!
Thank you!!
Thanks! I feel very blessed to have such a supportive community/so many playgroup choices
I wish the parents were more mindful of their children and that the management would direct parents. My child is
going to be giant. I don’t want him to learn to bully or get bullied
Please bring back KEET/Ready to Learn program
Thank you!
Blue Lake Playgroup is great, it’s not too full of growers unlike [another playgroup]. [two others] were dreadful
Molly does an amazing job making everyone feel welcome. The whole feeling of the playgroup is laid back and
relaxed which helps my little one do better. So happy we found this awesome support group
My family loves Blue Lake Playgroup, it’s like a little family where everyone is welcome and never judged. I have a
great appreciation for the program. Molly and the Americorps members do a wonderful job. I wish the program
was more than once a week
The playgroups have been critical to us feeling a part of community and meeting friends having lived here 13
months
Molly is awesome! The Blue Lake playgroup is the best one. I tell parents all the time to go to the Blue Lake
playgroup
We are here twice a week and always count on it being open. It has been very influential in his life. Hopefully my
daughter’s life too!
None. 99.9% satisfied!
I love it! I don’ know what I would do without it

Discovery Museum
I absolutely love that these playgroups are available for my children. It is a blessing they are free also!!!
We love Bev!
I like the structure of snack time and activity. Most approp. playgroup age-wise for my daughter. Most friendly and
inclusive. We love teacher Jenna
First 5 Playgroup has helped socialize my child and prepared her for preschool. Great program.
So grateful! This brings so much support to our children!
As a grandparent that lives in McKinleyville we utilize numerous programs and venues during our babysitting time
in Eureka. Thankfully Eureka provides many child friendly, safe, and nurturing environments for our children and
grandchildren. Thank you. It takes a village.
Jenna is warm and she is a natural w/kids. Amazing, wonderful. Snacks are generous. Let us know how parents
can contribute-volunteer, donations, etc.
I wish we had more time to attend more playgroups and Discovery Museum more often! I think it’s great that
there are so many free activities and groups for young children here. Thank you to the funding parties!
Great story hour and regular “routine.” First 5 programs are great for children and parents. thank you
Fortuna Playgroup
I love having this place to go
[She] loves coming to play here!!
I would like to talk to someone about the First 5 Humboldt funded child specialist
FUN Playcenter
Thank you for being here! Thank you to Alissa for being here and going above and beyond every playgroup. She
has made a big impact on all of my kids’ lives! Thank you to the moon and back!
We appreciate all the playgroups First 5 provides
Snack could be better. Healthier food, more veggies, less crackers
Love it!
First 5 programs are a real boon to this rural area; great for the children as well as the adults. thank you!
Alissa G is very welcoming and my child looks forward to seeing her
Glad to see these programs-not just this one
Our world is better because of these playgroups. Thank you. Thank you thank you. So grateful for First 5
Adorni Center is awesome. Just wish city was more understanding about having it open.
My child loves singing and story time at the end-asks for it the whole time we are there. There was a time when a
gentleman sang and played guitar and the children seemed to not be able to participate as they usually do and
mine and others I spoke with were disappointed by this. Mine and another I know kept asking to sing the more
familiar songs. They may get boring and repetitive to us but, at least in my experience, the kids love it.
Loleta
Que es muy beneficioso para las familias aprender cómo ayudar a nuestros niño y tener una buena rutina en
casa//It is very beneficial for families to learn how to help our children have a good routine at home
Manila Playgroup
The First 5 playgroups have been a huge part of my child’s development as well as a way to help me as a parent
Manila playgroup incorporates Montessori ideas/values and my daughter responds very well
A gardening area would be nice
Thank you so so much!
We love coming here. Everyone is so welcoming
We don’t miss a class Too important for the child

Mattole Playgroup
We love playgroup. It is so important for us to have kids and parents to interact with
Nos encanta Dulce//We love Dulce
Dulce is an incredible teacher. The kids love her!
We are so grateful for the Mattole Playgroup and the bookmobile. Both of these programs are essential to healthy,
connected kids and families in our rural area. Thank you, and please maintain funding for both of these programs!
McKinleyville
So nice to have a PG in our town. Thank you!
We really appreciate playgroup. We would like to have it for as long as possible. Thank you!
None thank you. It’s an excellent group
Orleans
I am so thankful to have Orleans playgroup for my kids
It’s a necessity in Orleans to have a playgroup. The families enjoy themselves and they all are able to make
friends
The ladies do a wonderful job of providing yummy snacks. They are welcoming and have fun projects for the
children. We love the Orleans playgroup
