EQ Controls
The REDD’s EQ controls were fairly limited, even in comparison
to those of the lower-end mixers found in home studios today. There
were Boost and Cut controls for the treble 7 and bass 8 frequencies on
each channel, but the frequencies affected could not be selected or
6
adjusted. There were no controls for midrange frequencies. The
hinged top panel on either side of the desk could be lifted and preset
EQ boxes would be plugged in. These boxes provided a choice
between preset “Pop” or “Classic” EQ curves. (Note that it was
“Classic” and not “Classical”, as has been previously claimed.)

A total of four EQ plugins 6 would be used: one for channels 1 and 2;

one for channels 3 and 4; one for 5 and 6; and one for 7 and 8. Four
small “cutouts” in the top of the desk allowed the engineer to tell at a
glance which EQ box was being used with which pair of channels.
(The prototype REDD.37 desk installed at Kingsway Hall had fixed
“classic” EQ curves and did not make use of the plug-in EQ boxes; as
such, it lacked the cutouts found on the other desks.)
