Aberdeen Skills and Enterprise Training Ltd (ASET) trading as ASET International
Oil & Gas Training Academy is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Aberdeen
College.

The company has been delivering competence based training since 1993 and
acquired the Shell Operations training facility in February 2000.

Since then ASET has delivered Exploration, Production and Maintenance training to
the majority of the world leading oil majors and contractors. The company
developed the first dedicated Hazardous Area Training Centre in the world and is still
the world leader in this provision. The Marine Department Centre is the only training
centre recognized by the International Association of Drilling contractors and the
Nautical Institute for Stability and Semi-Submersible and Jack-Up training.

ASET has developed and grown over the past number of years and on 7th March
2012 held the official opening of its new International Oil & Gas Training Academy
with a £10m investment in premises and equipment and is arguably the finest
training facility anywhere in the world.

ASET has capitalized on the wealth of resources and on the expertise available

lifeblood of the industry.

7.2 Electrical Training and Ex

ASET in conjunction with Aberdeen College was the first CompEx approved
hazardous area training centre of its kind anywhere in the world and opened in 1994.

ASET hold the enviable position of being world market leaders in Ex hazardous area
training to CompEx standards and in conjunction with JTL (CompEx awarding body)
introduced the CompEx online examination to replace written examinations to
enhance the candidate experience with a view to improving service levels for all.

CompEx Training for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres

5|Page
Explosive atmospheres occur in many industries, such as Oil and Gas drilling
production, petrochemical, Pharmaceutical and even waste water treatment.

The use of Electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres requires the

equipment to be selected, installed, inspected and maintained in accordance with
International Standards.

The CompEx scheme was introduced so that Companies could ensure the personnel
they employ have the necessary skills and competencies to safety select, install,
inspect and maintain equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.

ASET Currently offer training and assessment in CompEx units for:

 Electrical Power
 Instrumentation
 Combustible Dusts
 The CompEx Certification lasts 5 Years, after which ASET offer refresher
training to maintain the candidates’ level of competence

7.3 HV Switching and Power System Control

Personnel working on high voltage electrical systems need to be competent in order

to prevent danger and injury. The need for training to ensure a person is competent
is very important.

This course provides training in the safe operation of high voltage systems and
includes practical exercises to assess the competence of the candidate. On
successful completion of the course the candidate is awarded a city and Guilds 0672
Certificate.

7.5 Marine Including Radiotelephony

The Marine Department of ASET is situated within the Gallowgate College complex
and provides training to delegates in specialist fields of Offshore Marine.

The courses provided are the internationally approved by the Nautical Institute for
Dynamic Positioning operators. These are delivered in the classroom and utilise 2
full size DP simulators from different manufacturers (Converteam ‘C’ series along
with a Kongsberg SDP 21).

Offshore Stability & Ballast Control for Semi-submersibles courses which comply
with IADC/NI Guidelines and the IMO requirement A.891 (21) for the selection and
training of Ballast Control Operators, along with Marine Operations of Self Elevating
Platforms (Jack up Rigs). For this ASET operates two marine training simulators
utilising the same hydraulically actuated control platform. This control platform
simulates the movement of a mobile drilling unit (MODU) control room as the MODU
moves in a seaway to the effect of both external and internal forces. Alternatively,
the second simulator for Jack-Up operations functions as a jacking control room and
again moves to reflect conditions of loading or weather. Both simulations offer a very
sophisticated range of scenarios giving rise to a high degree of realism for students.

Our FPSO Marine Operations Awareness course introduces delegates to the

theoretical and practical considerations of the Marine Operations on an FPSO and is
delivered in the Classroom and also uses our unique high fidelity simulator for
stability which uses the latest technology linked to hydraulically actuated motion,
providing exceptional realism to practical training.

ASET also offers Radio Telephony courses in the following:

 General Operators Certificate (GOC) (GMDSS)

 Radiotelephony Restricted Operators Certificate (ROC) (GMDSS) and the
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Offshore Aeronautical Radio Operators
