My objective is to obtain a teaching position that utilizes my passion for teaching Drama and
English/Language Arts to create a positive learning environment and foster much needed reading,
communication and problem solving skills by implementing project based learning and coordinating
with other teachers to design interdisciplinary units.

Teaching Experience
ELA/AP Lang/Drama Teacher – 08/2016-Present – Detroit School of Arts
 Taught 10th and 11th grade English classes, revamping the 11th grade curriculum to include a greater
focus on non-fiction texts regularly found on the SAT, grammar, and current events.
 Received AP certification to teacher AP Language and Composition in July 2017.
 Taught afterschool SAT prep classes in addition to regular after-school tutoring. Over 50% of
students saw more than a 50-point rise in their ERW scores.
 Created the first Thespian Troupe in Detroit Public Schools. At our first ever State Festival
(December 2017), four students were invited to compete at the National Festival.
 Technical director for four theatrical productions each year
 In the spring of 2018, our Thespian Troupe wrote and produced their own adaptation of the Greek
tragedies Oedipus Rex and Antigone.
 Responsible for recruitment and auditions into the theatre major at the high school
ELA Teacher – 08/2015 – 01/2016 – University Prep Science and Math High School, Detroit, MI
 Taught 4 sections of SAT Prep and 1 section of Freshman English
 Developed project-based curriculum for SAT Prep classes focusing on reading skills and grammar.
ELA Teacher – 08/2014 – 08/2015 – Chandler Park Academy High School, Harper Woods, MI
 Taught the senior level English courses, which focused on improving grammar and writing skills,
preparing students for college-level work.
 Collaboratively worked with senior social studies teachers to create a cross-curricular final research
project. Project was deemed successful enough for the Curriculum Specialist to request a PD
workshop covering the methods used.
 ACT intervention for students retaking the ACT saw on average 4 points of growth on overall scores
and 6 points on their English scores. As a result, was asked to participate in an “ACT Bootcamp”
program for Juniors who were preparing for the ACT.
 Was ranked as a highly effective teacher in principal evaluations.
Auditorium Director/Tech Theatre Club Advisor - 08/2012-05/2014 - Windsor High School,

 Instructed students in methods of theatrical design, including research and presentation
techniques, construction and safety procedures, creative problem solving and critical thinking

 Trained students in the proper implementation, care and maintenance of theatrical lighting, sound
and shop equipment
 Proposed and organized a tech club field trip for students to tour the theatre spaces and see a
performance of “Urinetown” at Metro State University in order to expose them to college and
professional level theatre.
 Revitalized the technical theatre club, increasing student participation from 3 to 22 in a single
semester
 Promoted involvement in the Colorado State Thespian Society among all students, including
chaperoning trips to the annual state conference in Denver.
 Increased efficiency in auditorium, work spaces, scheduling and event management.
 Reinstated proper safety procedures within the auditorium and scene shop, calling for safer
practices regarding lights in the auditorium, storage of flammable materials in the work shop, and
storage of equipment and materials
In-School Suspension Supervisor – 08/2011-05/2012 – Greeley West High School, Greeley, CO
 Monitored students who had been suspended due to behavioral referrals and helped them devise
ways to avoid such behavior and consequences in the future
 Tutored high school students who were struggling academically in Reading, Writing, Algebra,
History, Science and World Languages, frequently teaching one on one, small groups and multiple
subjects at the same time.
 All students who came to ISS changed grades in one or more failing classes to passing and were
able to
maintain the passing grade for the remainder of the semester

 Supported students with moderate-severe needs one on one and in small groups as they developed
reading, writing, math, and vocational skills

school students in extra-curricular workshops and after school clubs

adjoining and complimentary technical theatre club
