It’s Your Turn

When I grow up, I want to be surgeon! I want to be a politician. I want to be a lawyer.

No, you can’t! You’re a girl. You cannot be too busy for your family.
Ehh, why are you always wearing jeans?
You are a girl! You must wear more skirts and dresses.
HAHAHAHAHA. OH MY GOD THAT’S SO FUNNY!
Shhhhh. Calm down. You’re a girl. You can’t laugh so loudly.
You are a girl.
You are a girl.
You are a girl.
You are a girl!

A very good morning to the honorable judges, timekeeper, ladies and gentlemen.
Today, we, the generation of progress and change proudly present to you It’s Your Turn

Since time immemorial, women are always being told what to think, what to say and what to
do.
Women are not given the opportunity to voice out their thoughts, Women are not allowed to
do anything and everything that makes them happy, Women do not have the right to make
choices for themselves.
But Why? Why? Why?
This is because men are always considered to be more superior to women.
Men are considered to be mentally and physically stronger than women.
Hence, Men are usually the breadwinners of the family and are often hailed as heroes for
contributing to the nation’s economy.
Women, on the other hand, are usually called baby-producing-factories who are confined to
the four walls of the home, raising their ‘products’. *SHOCKED*
*What?
Stop right there!
*Excuseeeeee me! Baby producing factories?
*Hellloooooooo women are much more than that!
Women are state leaders in more than 20 countries including New Zealand, Canada and
Singapore.
418 women have reached the summit of Mount Everest in the past 30 years.
Women have been to space. NASA’s latest class of astronauts consist of 50% women.
Yes, ladies! You are strong, beautiful and intelligent.
You can do whatever you put your mind to.
You are independent and you do not need a man to tell you what to do, what to say and
what to think.
You are a human being and you are entitled to the same right as every man in this world.
And if you are deprived of that right, don’t worry, we got you, ladies! We will fight for you!
We will fight with you. Together!

*It’s the 21st century! Women have already accomplished so much. Are we still fighting for
women’s rights?
Unfortunately, yes.
Men have gotten used to the dominance and they enjoy the position of being able to always
exercise their powers over women.
With that said, women’s voice, be it individually or collectively is suppressed because men’s
ego does not recognize women’s livelihood as a right but a mere privilege and that privilege
is being a baby producing factory.
And this is why we must fight this patriarchal society.
We must understand that men and women are born equal.
Women deserve the right to equal pay, equal opportunities to education and jobs and more
importantly the freedom of choosing whatever they wish to be.

Ladies and gentlemen, society has set standards of what a girl is supposed to be like and
these standards have hampered girls to dream big and be true to themselves.
*So, What do you wish to become when you grow up, Amelia?
*I wish to become an English teacher.
*Why?
*Because my mother said that it is a girls’ duty to take care of the family and so I should not
get a busy career.
*shocked*
Okay, First of all, a teacher’s job is not as easy as you think!
Our teachers are basically our second parents because they babysit us for about 8 hours a
day. And of course, We love you teachers!
Second of all, it is not only a girl’s responsibility to take care of her family.
Taking care of the household is a team effort, not a girl’s.
Girls and boys can do the dishes. Boys: Agree!
Girls and boys can do the laundry. Boys: Agree!
Girls and boys can clean the house. Boys: Agree!
Listen up, boys! Never ever ever tell your sisters or girlfriends that they have to sweep and
mop because they are a girl.
Never ever ever tell them that being a girl means laughing softly. They can laugh out loud
whenever and wherever they want.
Most importantly, never ever ever think and assume that you are better than them in
anyway just because you are a boy.

So, here comes the million dollar question. Kachinnggggggggg!

How do we fight this war for equality and freedom?
How? How? How? How?
Hit the buzzer!
Answer! It is time for men to also stand with women to fight this shameful war till the end.
Women need not prove worthy of equal rights.
Women are half of the world’s population.
We cannot have leaders objectifying and not giving women the rightful respect. #metoo
Women must never be put in a position where it is okay to be sexuallly harrassed as long as
they still get to keep their jobs. #metoo
We cannot have the POTUS, who is one of the most powerful person in the world calling
women fat pigs, slobs and bimbos.
That is wrong! Wrong! Wrong!
National leaders must take the first step because they are in a position of power to
influence.
If politicians and national leaders do not show women respect, there would be a domino
effect on how other men view women.
*Change must happen*
Women's’ lives are not subjects of men. *cheer*
Women’s lives are precious. *cheer*
Women are not helpless! *Cheer*
Women are powerful. *cheer*
Girls: We can cook, clean, ace at our careers, iron and raise our children. The only time we
are really helpless is when our nail polish is drying.
Boys: We agree!
Ladies and gentlemen, we are not saying that women should rule the world….
*That’s not a bad idea.
*That would be so cool!
*No tax on all make-up products!
* Let’s double the tax on men’s clothes and perfumes! Muahahahaha*
*Who run the world? Girls! Who Run the World? Girls*
*Come on, guys? What’s this side-track? That is not gender equality anymore!*
Yes, That’s true!
We must realize that gender equality is not a women issue, it is a human issue.
It is not a privilege but a human right.
It is not a war to be fought only by women but society as a whole.
With that said, let’s end misogyny, let’s end sexism, let girls obtain education, let women
have equal pay, let us all live our equally rightful lives to the fullest.
So, to all the men out there, you must stand up and speak up because now, it’s your turn.
That answer is correct! Kachinggggggggg! Blinggg Blingggg Blinggg!!!

Thank you.
