SUMMER PROJECT (SP)

What is STP?
 It actually gives exposure to the students to the real work situation and organizational issues
whereby students can relate these with the theoretical knowledge that has been imparted through
the classroom teaching.
 Remember that it is not a research work as such. However it is an important academic exercise. It
is intended to orient students to the practical aspects of managing human resources within
organizations.
 It is based on real work situation.
 If you understand ‘What of HRM’ from your books/class lectures, ‘How of HRM’ can be
understood from your summer project.

SOME BASIC THINGS :( What you have to do?)

1st Aspect: Understand the organization, what it stands for? What is/are its
business(es)/product(s)/service(s)? - You should try to meticulously observe the documents and writings,
banners, hoarding, posters, inscriptions, notice board, etc. Take a note of the organizational structure,
arrangement of work, production processes etc.
2nd Aspect: Understand the human resource and human resource management. How is work organized?
What role the does human resource play vis-à-vis the organization of work? What are the basic HRM
functions of the organization? Look at the HR department, the HR team, HR Manager’s room, How the
HR manager coordinates with his boss/peers/subordinates? Understand the inter personal relationship in
the organization. If there is/are any union(s), try to know about the union’s position. Identify the position
and contribution of HR/HRM/HR manager
3rd Aspect: Try to collect data relevant to your project’s topic. This is academically most important since
you need to submit a project report on the topic itself.

Three things you should always keep in mind

 Discipline
 Timing/ punctuality
 Positive Attitude
 Behave politely
 Follow the instructions of the organization carefully
You have to create a positive impression to the organization/ HR manager. You never now this may be
taken positively. You may get a chance to serve the organization in future !!!
A quality project work can help you to get a job in some other organization!!!
Remember that the organization develops impression about our course/department/faculty/university
through you only.
DONT’S
o Don’t think that HR manager/other executive has lot of time to spend on you; He doesn’t get any
benefit from your STP. So as it your interest, you have to collect data from your own by investing
time and understanding.
o Don’t think it is a casual exercise; it will help you at the time of grand viva/ job interview (you
have to show it).
o Don’t be late. When the manager will give you time try to be there on time. It will create a bad
impression if you miss the time.
o Don’t ask controversial questions about the organization, don’t ask for data which the organization
may not be interested to share with you.
GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING YOUR PROJECT REPORT
Proper and orderly presentation of the report improves the quality of project. The report mainly involves
the followings:
