CREATION OF LAYERS OF POINT LINE AND POLYGON FEATURES

AIM: Aim of the experiment is to Digitize the Georeferenced image.

SOFTWARE USED: QGIS

INPUT DATA: Scanned Toposheet.

Theory

 Digitization less commonly Digitalization is the process of converting information

into a digital (i.e. computer-readable) format, in which the information is organized
into bits.

PROCEDURE

1) Open QGIS software.

2) Go to Add later and Add Raster layer. Locate the image you want to digitize and
click open.

3) Now go to the LayerCreate layerNew Shapefile Layer.

4)New Shapefile Layer window will open. Give location details in the file
name.
5) Then select the Geometry type you want to perform digitization.
6) There will be three namely Point ,Line and Polygon.
7) Here itself we can create the attribute table and the fields in it and click add
field and then click OK.
8)Now we are ready to start Digitization. Before starting Digitization, we
must activate the Toggle Editing Tool.
9) Click the add feature button . Start adding the required
number of features.
10) After adding a point on the toposheet, it will immediately open the feature
attribute table. Fill the required details in that table.

11) Similarly repeat for the remaining point features.

12) Now again go to layer and create layer and go to Create New Shapefile layer.
13) Now we can create a line feature.

14) Now to digitize the line feature activate toggle editing and select add feature.
The default style of the new line layer is a thin line. Right click the Road layer and
select Properties.
15)After completion of a line feature right click the mouse and enter the data in
necessary data in the feature attribute table. Similarly, we can do for the number of
roads we require.
16) Now you will see the digitized road feature clearly. Click Save Layer Edits

17) Make sure to click Save Edits after you add a new feature to save your work.
18) Similarly do for the Polygon features.

19) Save the layer edits and click Toggle Editing once you finish digitizing all.
20) The digitizing task is now complete. You can play with the styling and
labeling options in layer properties to create a nice-looking map from the data
you created.
21) This can be done by right clicking on the feature and go to the properties and
perform the styling and labelling operations as required.

22) After performing the operations, the features are displayed as shown.
23) Now we can create or export the map.
24)Go to project title in the tool bar and go to New Print Layout and give the print
layout title and click ok.
25) The window will be displayed as shown.

26) Now make a note of the features present on the left side of the window.

27)First select the add image feature and with the help of cursor drag the
cursor on the white area shown.
28) The point, line and polygon features will then be displayed.
29) Go to Add item and add the label, north arrow, legend, scale etc required to
prepare a map.
30) North arrow should be added by using add image feature. Then go to search
directories in the item properties shown in the picture window in the right side of
the screen and select the north arrow.
31) Finishing the entire map, we can export the map in .jpg or pdf format using the
features present on the window.

32) Thus, the final map generated is as shown.

RESULT
Point, line and Polygon features are registered.
